How's your experience with the AI on all difficulties?
Recently replayed Rebellion and I'm enjoying it. I'm never one for playing multiplayer so if I get this, I'll only play against the AI.

I'm reading good things about Sins 2 so I got curious. All these reviews are making me want to get the game, lol.

It's definitely got a well earned following.
I only play against ai as well. In terms of difficulty, it's pretty much the same settings as Sins 1. many well scaled options and the ability to set personalities. Very passive easy, easy ai to the impossible impossible one.
When I was relearning the game and it's new features I got whooped by a normal ai my first game. Then steamrolled all of them the second game, also on normal once I had a batter hang of things.

Medium difficulty to learn the game if you played other games like that. Hard when you know all the research and the queues... and higher when you are better :) I found hard they are good to snipe down my capital or in 3 FFA if you attack somoene then they other attack you somewhere... find it balanced like a normal mode :)

Also everything depends of the map and wow they have a lot of maps! they just added 15 in the latest hotfix lol

Does the game allow you to adjust difficulty when you load it back?

Just be careful of doing team fights as they will gang up on you! (And your AI team mate won't help...)

Recommend playing against medium for a game to learn the new tech trees and such, but I've moved up to unfair difficulty and it's been rough. Rough but fun lol.

Been playing a few Hards lately and I swear they are broken. It felt like I was fighting Easy. They weren't really expanding nor attacking me.

Its actually been expanded. You can select the "setup/load" option when in the saves menu: Allows changing the difficulties, allows you to take control of a ai player, allows changing behaviors.

Ai sucks when playing as a team (they work well with other AI but need to be constantly ordered around if playing with a human tell them where to move their fleet in the diplomacy menu; they are very very sluggish at fulfilling the request but will do it provided a planet of theirs isn't under assault). FFA AI is pretty decent and fair.

first systems next to my starter system contain so many grey enemies that taking them is impossible even on the easiest difficulty unless you spend an hour IRL building up a big enough force to even conquer 1 system.. Mind, you you actually need resources to build up your forces which you can not really do very well if you can't take over other systems.. See the problem?
Ahh...
Build your colonly cap, que up 9 starter frigates and set the rally point on the colony cap.
By the time it jumps 3-4 will be following it and the others will follow shortly... they provide far more damage then the cap by itself, lets you clear out anything but the hardest gravity wells rather easy.

Hard is super weak while unfair is unbeatable for me. Maybe it has something to do with the AI personalities?

It should at best take one capital and 10-15 basic frigates to destroy any neutral defenders in a well. You can even colonise the planet after the siege frigates are gone.

Its actually better to just click the create fleet button at the top left then use the fleet icon to enter the build menu, create a capital ship and queue its escorts and you'll have a full coloniser fleet ready to go. Reinforce the fleet with more ships and capitals as the game progresses.

Pretty solid overal however it seems as TEC you can pin down fleets in location between tradelanes the AI cannot ignore the escorts and tradeships for some reason and their fleets can get stuck in a location allowing you to do pretty much everything you want.

Edit: Here in this screenshot you can see the fleet being at the star in the meantime i secured the entire system for myself. Difficulty is unfair.

Yeah, this happened to me as well. The AI can also be baited out into engaging TEC Enclave garrison troops even if they cannot threaten an AI's planet. They'll send their entire deathstack there leaving their home planet undefended for sniping purposes. The way the AI interacts with "fake" ships such as garrisons and trade escorts needs to be looked at too. They should serve as temporary speed bumps, scout vision and light backup while in a fight inside their pathing areas, not glitching the AI out into constant wild goose chases.
