Stellaris Vs Sins 2
As the title says, which do you guys prefer? After playing a bit of this I felt as though stellaris has much more going for it even at its base level when it comes to game play and the ability to tailor ships as well as planets. What is y'all opinion on this?

They are completely different games, and completely different genres at that.
Stellaris is trying to mix 4x games with 'Grand Strategy' games, Sins is trying to mix 4x with RTS.

They aren't even trying to do the same thing, for the most part.

They aren't really comparable. Stellaris is a huge, bloated (in a good way) game strategy juggernaut with heavy emphasis on randomness and how you adapt best. Also the planet development are a central part of your economic strategy.

Sins is a much more fast paced RTS with emphasis on tactical battles to a much larger degree and the right strategy to best your opponents efficiently.

I do like both apples and oranges a lot though, each for their individual quirks, so there's that.

Edit: why can one always tell beforehand that the post was made by a private profile user, I wonder.... Sigh

Now that y'all mention it I guess they are two very different games. I guess when I think of 4x space strategy I always compare them to Stellaris.

Stellaris doesn't have cinematic battles.

I love Stellaris but the combat is never satisfying. Sins II allows for tactical and strategic gameplay that Stellaris really cannot do. I have over 1500 hrs in Stellaris, it's fun, but I go back to playtest matches I've had from Sins 2 development in my mind way more than any situation I've played out in Stellaris.

While both games look similar they play very differently, Stellairs I feel is more heavy on the Empire management side, you have to build up your planets and fleet building is okay. Stellaris is not exactly new player friendly, it took me about 100hr to get the grasp of things and even then I still feel lost at times playing it. The first Sins game was my entry point into 4x games when it first came out and it was easy to understand after about an hour or two.

Ironic, since 4x was coined by the success of Sins 1.

It was coined fifteen years before that in a promo piece for Master of Orion, which kicked off a herd of similar games through the 1990s.

Really? I thought Sins was a Hybrid of traditional 4x and RTS games because it replicates the 4x experience in real time, instead of through turns.

There is no “pause” in Sins. I played both and like sins more personally. It’s more action/fast paced

But there is a pause?
Even in multiplayer you can set different pause settings (e.g. limited per player, or infinite for more casual gamers)

The game still runs in real time, but if player wants to pause the game, he has such an option

I guess by "no pause" he means that there is always something happening in sins. In stellaris you have more downtime doing nothing.

Two different game genres, incomparable.

Stellaris is mostly about X4 management with some favor of RPing (combat was never it's main thing, it's just form another management).
Sin is all about RTS combat with some X4 management mix in.

Depends on where you draw the lines - Sins for me falls in the same family tree as Age of Empires / Rise of Nations; they're RTS's which lean a bit more into the economic/empire management side of things rather than focusing entirely on the tactical side of things a la War/Starcraft, and take some inspiration from the classic 4X genre.
The problem with 4X is that like RPG, it's a definition loose enough that if you aren't referring to a specific type of game (in this case, turn based grand strategy of the Reach for the Stars lineage) it suddenly starts applying to everything - The Sims includes exploration and exploitation elements, and I've no doubt someone somewhere would be willing to insist that means it 'includes 4X elements'.
