Modding Guidelines + Tools
This document lays out the guidelines for “modders” (people making the mods). This is a series of what is considered acceptable best practices and how the moderators reviewing the mod platform may respond depending on a given situation.

You Can Find The Mod Tools Here [github.com]

  • Any modifications/changes made to another users existing mod, must have had attempted contact with the original author for permission, and be able to provide proof of attempted contact upon request from a moderator.

  • Best etiquette includes having proper credit given to original authors where reasonable, if not automatically supplied by game/software.

  • Should the original author not respond, the modification will be deemed useable until such a time as when the original requests otherwise. In such a case, a takedown notice of the mod will be issued.

  • If a DMCA notice/strike is issued against any mod for any reason from an I.P owner, said mod must be taken down immediately.

  • If an original I.P owner makes an edit request, it would be expected to be accomodated otherwise the owner may issue a takedown request.

  • Should Hateful, harmful, racist, or otherwise belligerent content be found. It will be communicated to the community manager and taken down

  • If you find that your content has been utilized without your consent, please report the mod on mod.io for moderator review with contextual explanation or contact moderation staff with evidence, for follow-up on either the forums or relevant Discord server.

  • Volunteer Moderators should be encouraged to use their own best judgement. Moderators need to be firm, fair and impartial.

  • If Moderators encounter more complex situations requiring support, please contact either the community manager or developer.

  • Repeat violators can have their privileges suspended if they continue to disregard rules and guidelines after being warned for the first offense. They may receive disciplinary action ranging from limited suspensions to permanently revoked mod platform privileges for Habitual abusers. Such disciplinary actions will be determined by either developers or the community manager.

  • Moderators should be encouraged to follow up with the original designer and let them know what action was taken in a confidential manner.

  • These rules and guidelines apply to any modded content.

  • For questions and concerns please reach out via the forums or relevant Discord server to the community manager, RammaStardock.

  • Additionally, All mods are not supported by Stardock/Ironclad and we cannot provide support if it breaks your game

So I added a mod that made the ship icons smaller with the mod IO thing. I played for hours and decided the mod didn't make a big difference so I hit the x and that didn't disable the mod, it just got rid of it. When I tried to load my 3 hour game again, it didn't show up in the single player manual save load list...nothing. I reloaded the mod I deleted and still no save games...I want my time back ;)

First question, can you remove minor mods and still have your save show up?
2nd, is there a way to just disable a mod and not delete it?

Thank you
Great game.

Press CTRL Shift S, then search for enable_strict_saved_game_filtering and turn it to false
I did open that side menu like you described but I can't find enable_strict_saved_game_filtering
Thanks for the info though.

You don't manually install, use the built in mod browser when you launch the game, you subscribe and it installs, it's easy😁
It's worked fine for decades, with no hassle most of the time. people act like a click or 2 to a different site is just too much hassle. If it's a good mod, i don't care where i have to get it from.
Most modders anyways put detailed instructions on how to do manual installs.
Not only that but most games made past 2016 that natively support mods are setup so a manual install is drop folder "x" into folder "y" and the mod will appear in game lol

So manual installs are super easy, not like back in the day where you had to do .dll injections and worry about anticheat and so on etc

They have made it so easy to install and use mods😁
Why can't I access mods anymore?
It just says "Not authenticated."

Yet when I go to Mod.io and enter my email for registraion, it just waffles:

Failed to update email

The "display_name" may only contain letters, numbers, and dashes.

Error code: 13009

Well, my email is only made up of the above and it's not a display name?

You have to have your Mod.io linked to your steam account. Not authenticated means it's not, or has another error like the acc being closed or missing info. Go to the actual Mod.io site and contact their support if needed.

Sin's devs can't fix your Mod.io account unfortunately.

There's no way to contact Mod.io devs unless I authenticate my account which I can't as I'm getting error messages when simply putting my email in. Why they couldn't just use workshop is beyond me.

Because it wouldn't support any other launcher besides Steam.
A GOG release is likely to happen as well.

That is not true. You do not need to be logged in to contact support.
https://support.mod.io/hc/en-us/requests/new

I recently had to contact them to un-close my account which had no email associated but was linked to my steam account still.

Workshop would only work on steam but this game is on multiple platforms. The workshop has minimal support by Valve and is hilariously poorly organised. It's familiar sure, but it's not 'good' compared to most other mod-sharing sites.

Quick question about the in game mod manager: I've noticed a number of my subscribed mods on mod.io are being updated regularly, yet the in game manager is still displaying EVERY mod i have sub'd to as V1.

is this a display error, or is the in game manager not updating to show new versions? If thats the case, what do i need to do to get it to display up-to-date mod versions?

Having uploaded a mod myself and updated its version, this seems to be a display error.

The mod interface itself needs serious help. Theres no descriptive page for each mod, and whatever mod you subscribe to has to be applied all or nothing, you cant just pick and choose which to activate without completely unsubscribing to a mod. Since modding is essentially the lifeblood of sins games, its one thing that needs to work right imo

That is exactly why you have to go to the web site mod.io and look at the mods. I have a few mods there and I have details descriptions about the mod.

The info is there, you just need to go there and look. The interface in the game just makes it easier to get he mod.

I made a small mod and uploaded it to Mod.io, signed up so I could test it, applied the changes, but it's not actually applying any changes even though it worked perfectly fine when I tested it in my local mod folder. Leave a comment if you know a way to fix this issue. Thanks.

You can literally subscribe to mods ingame. There is no functional difference to workshop.
