I understand it's not exactly a top priority, and it absolutely is a ton of work, but are there any plans to actually replace all the AI art with something handmade? Having never played Sins before and just looking at portraits and research trees, a lot of it lacks style, is uncanny, or just blends together, or looks obviously ai-generated, or just has very little relation to the actual research. Even if the art is a bit crude I 100% believe having a cohesive art style instead of the extremely generic "smooth" ai style that literally everything ai generated has would improve not just the aesthetic of the game but the general experience as well becuase you'd be able to immediately tell what is what at a glance much easier. Also, even just 20 minutes into tutorials I've already seen icons for researches and colony/ship parts being the same (reused) despite having no relation at first glance.

Imho the vast majority of Art & icons in Sins 2 looks awesome and needs no notable changes, and especially no reworks.
Perhaps a couple of icons need a slight change to be more related to the research they are describing, or a new icon so its not reused as a different research/item.

What actually needs colossal improvements are the voice lines for ships and starbases, both in terms of quality and quantity.
Current Sins 2 voice lines are very few in number and usually sound like toned down Sins 1 voice lines that lost that cartoony emotional character, yet got nothing unique going for them.

Also the research tutorial is slightly broken right now as it asks you to research a tech which I am guessing was at some point moved, so you need to build an exotics refinery to complete the tutorial, which needs its own researches, which at no point does it ask you to.

Does it not auto que the research when trying to build the structure?

Overall and all are unlikely.
But if you have issues or suggestions gor particular artworks, let tge devs know.
Multiple artworks have seem overhauls, but not a complete step away from their ai-assisted workflow.
It depends on the race. TEC icons are generally good, while Advent still suffer from a lot of vague looking icons I have no idea about from a glance. In fact there's at least 2-3 techs that use the same icon, which should definitely be addressed as it's simply unprofessional.

I rather fancy the AI art in Sins2. The original art seemed a little outdated for its time.

omfg, thank you for this comment, i thought i was going crazy. took me a couple mins to figure out how to even build exotics refinery (had to unlock more logistic slots for civ buildings or w/e), but i was able to get through it because of your comment, thanks
I like the AI art but the voice lines really needs improvement.
Highly highly agree with OP. AI art is a blight on creators everywhere, not to mention it looks like ♥♥♥♥. I knew IMMEDIATELY when I launched the game that a lot of the art was AI, and I hate it. Please do better Stardock. Hire artists.
I think its just virtue signaling.
The main issue with the art at release were inconsistency, theyve worked on it, now its better.
Variety maybe an issue, however it can be solved fast.
The uncanny part: I call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, humans use the same style sometimes.
