Sins of a Solar Empire II

Mods need version control
It'd be nice if Sins could check the version of a mod from Mod.io. Half of them are completely broken and their makers don't update them now.

No kidding. It has been a pain figuring out what ones are safe. All the supply mods (expect for Incremental) are broken to some degree
agreed. it became too much for me to deal with since i was trying to combine several mods into one for ease of use but i ended up deleting them all.

the whole mod UI needs an overhaul, the fact we can't click on any sort of 'see more' or even a link to the IO page in order to see what a mod is actually about is a huge issue, then there is, as you say, the fact you have no idea what version they are for or when they were last updated.

Thats indeed a valid concern. I dont have much to say on the matter other than that I agree.

I think a good example of mods is Stellaris. It tells you the specific version of the game the mod was released for and a warning that it may not be compatible with the current version of the game so you can easily see what was released and when.

Ive almost stopped playing entirely because mods arent working. Vanilla Sins is okayish.

have you tried E4X for Sins1? I'd say it's the best mod overall.
Do any mods work ?

I was going to say mine do since I updated them about a week ago, but I went and double checked before posting and found they are broken AGAIN. Right after I fixed them cause apparently the new x.x.1 patch broke them all yet again. Developers really need to stop adding new, required lines that need to be added to mod files, or when those lines arent found then automatically assume the mod isnt meant for DLC or a specific higher game version since those lines are useless anyway for old mods as they wont have DLC content in them anyway.

I love this game, I really do, but the developers are some of the absolute worst coders I have ever seen in my life. Now time to go fix my mods for the 5th time for absolutely no reason.

As for what mods work, I like playing with No Super Weapons for All and Ive come to like Starbase Levels as well. Both work fine in current 1.4.1 version and do not throw an error for me

Edit:
My mods are now updated as well to no longer throw errors.

How would the workshop change the described issues and how would it server the game distributed on other platforms than steam?

Steam Workshop seems highly unlikely to me.

I agree with previous posters that improvements of the current implementation are definitely desirable, with better version control or marking as one of them.
