Sins of a Solar Empire II

Sins of a Solar Empire II

Should I
Should I buy Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion or Sins of a Solar Empire II? I have never played either games. Is the graphics any better in the new one? Empire II is 3 times the price of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. Is it easy to learn?

I paid less than $20 for my copy of Sins 2 but I also didn't buy it through steam. I think the combat effects in the 1st one look better (maybe just nostalgia talking), planets look way better in the 2nd one. I've only got a few hours in the 2nd and I like it enough so far. If you're really on the fence wait for a big sale and get both. You asked " Is the graphics any better in the new one?" So if graphics mean more to you than game play I'd say get the 2nd one just for the improved visuals.

I wouldn't say that I like visuals more or over game play, I really like them the same.
Look at Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered, They not only improved the graphics but they also improved the game play. Game play is important to and that is why I asked about the learning curve.

Having played both, Sins 1 has more content but was built with a single core CPU in mind. Sins 2 was built for a multi core CPU. Sins 2 has moved smoothly for the game I've played so far. Sins 1 would usually slow down to a crawl at some sections were there are a lot of units in the same area.

Sins 2 simply because there have been huge changes to quality of life before even talking about graphics, multi-core threading, or future content.

Both are great games so you can't go wrong with either.

That being said, I would vote for Sins II. Multi-core just makes it smoother to play, which is definitely worth it given how similar they are. As somebody that played from the original (without expansions) Sins I had some growing pains that left it with some rough edges. I love it dearly and even miss some of the features, but Sins II seems to be shaping up to be a bit more planned and balanced (no guarantees of course).

Learning isn't hard in either, but you'll probably want to start out in easy and learn how the tech trees work, and get an impression of their unique features. It's not like Stellaris where you need to ingest the wiki to play it.

If you want to play it for the mods,
Then rebellion has still an edge, but Sins 2 is catching up.
In terms of myltiplayer a notable part of people moved from rebellion to Sins 2 so there I would give the edge to Sins 2.
If you have friends or acquaintances playing you might want to go for the version they are playing.

That would be my point as well - it's really nice how the more modern game keeps a better fps in huge battles.

Sins II also has improved gameplay details IMHO - it's really a fleshed out Sins I in almost all aspects.

Jip, it's pretty easy. Even the new mechanics can be learned "on the go" IMHO - without playing tutorials. Just do some matches against the AI and don't shy away from getting beaten a few times - you'll quickly get the upper hand

Sins 2 due to the new engine and QoL features. It's just much nicer.

Dont buy Sins 2, it has MAJOR issues with loading saved games which is ridiculous, go with the sins game before it as it has tonnes of mods you can get from www.moddb.com, just do a search for Sins on there...

I dont know about these other guys, but I was a boy literally like 7-8 years old, and Play Sins of a Solar Empire first, Sins of a Solar empire 2, I waited a few decades for and really its not all hyped of to what it could be, but it has DLCs coming so they'll be good. 1 was an instant classic and 2 is catching up quickly,
Really if its a bunch of youngsters commenting then they dont know the value of the first game. They just played cause of Sins 2 came out

Well said! The game before this one is stable and has an insane amount of mods, its also an older game so it can run on pretty much anything these days, especially on an older system.

Sins 2 does perform really good on older systems too,
and one does run into less crashes and slow down late game.

It's just a shame that no matter how old and "light" Sins 1 is it will never not slow down to a crawl in the late game due to it being designed for single core systems, the one issue Sins 2 was created to get around.
