1. A couple times they have all agreed to a Cease Fire and I had zero AI opponents early in the game. These games are kind of boring because you have no action until later in the game. You can grow your empire and research a lot though. Once the AI has killed off one or two of the other AI, they will turn on you and break the Cease Fire. Or sometimes I break the Cease Fire because I am bored with having no fighting because we are all at peace.
2. A couple times they have all disagreed to a Cease Fire, and it's me against all the AI. This can be difficult if the AI are ganging up on you early in the game. You have to worry about defense more. If you get an aggressive AI or two on you early in the game, it is tough. Sometimes they are busy killing each other instead of you though.
3. Usually, I get something in the middle. One or two AI will have a Cease Fire with me, and 1 or 2 will not. This is the most common outcome. And probably the most fun for a solo player also. You can't just ignore defending yourself because you have enemies to fight, but you probably aren't being ganged up on early in the game either.
I'm just not seeing any kind of consistent logical behaviour, and it really makes that game mode frustrating to play.
It started out by me attacking a center planet of one AI. It was a long fight, but I was getting the upper hand. Then two other massive AI fleets enter the system and I'm like "wow this is gonna be crazy, I better back out a bit and let them tear each other apart". But no, they just flew straight at me and ignored each other. I tried to buy a cease fire with one of them, but no amount of ressources did the trick.
My biggest issue is that there seems to be no way to gauge the succes of diplomatic offers. There also seem to be no way to see the diplomatic status of the AI, so what I thought was gonna be an epic 4-way battle, turned out to be 3 AI's steamrolling me. Had I been able to see in advance, that they were allied, I wouldn't have stuck around in that system.
EDIT: As Vandom mentioned, the AI seem to have a general anti-player bias [so long as the player is doing relatively well].
sending entire fleets passing by planets just to pound on the HUMAN PLAYER capital planet ( if playing on default settings )
or
2 or more allied ai's attack if not at the same time but within 2-12 seconds on different systems i guess thats great, though i wish i would see regulary more ai vs ai fights in ffa random games at any rate.
