i do miss map designer from soase 1
GIVE ME WAY MORE MAPS AND LET ME MAKE MY OWN
FINISH THE GAME DAMN
They feel Sins1 players quickly moved from random editor to galaxy forge, so they focused on releasing the equivalent of galaxy forge first.
Why shouldn't you have to use alternate software to make maps ? It's how like, 95% of other RTS' do it, and frankly, it has always been a way better option than in-game editor.
Solar Forge also generates random maps now, Galaxy Forge didn't.
You can easily do multi star systems with Solar Forge. There's also some in the game already, like agamemnon's bounty.
As a rather active map editor myself, I'd much rather they focus on fixing pressing issues with the game, then fixing issues with the tool that's out there, before recoding a feature in game that's essentially already in Solar Forge.
And lets face it, most players are not computer savvy and just don't do things like install external files. They will simply miss-out on any of those options.
I mean, the experience the dev described there is exactly the experience I had and it makes a lot of sense. I got quickly frustrated with in-game editor cause it leads to a lot of redundancy in the maps, and the games would last 40 hours with really poor performance. With Galaxy Forge, I could make inspired maps and cut them to the essential.
You'll tell me "what if I want redundant maps that last 40 hours ?", well you can make that with solar forge :D
It's also not harder to learn than paint. It's a bit more nuanced with Solar Forge, but I had a handle on it in 5 minutes. Of course, if people never try, they'll never get a handle on it. I'm not sure why it's such a hurdle to download the tools. (They could offer a more straightforward download option for them tho - they're working on things like this afaik)
They sure never will be and they will sure miss out with that attitude lol.
At least until ironclad caves and spends precious dev time (contrary to what most seem to believe, they have very little manpower there) on recoding a feature in-game already available with the tools. ^^''
