Finally sat down and played hacker, its a blast, I really enjoy it. It is however, imo, far too powerful.
1. The health regen is far too powerful after you get even two syphon hacks. You become the best tank in the game. Who needs a shield, if you're unkillable? Maybe make it so health regen doesn't increase with further syphon hacks? I'd personally like it if Hacker tried to hide, and stay out of the fights directly.
2. Virus I felt was particularly underwhelming, even after dumping some points into it. I'm unsure if it is bugged, cause I didn't actually notice it do ANY damage to bosses at all. Hard to say on normal troops, I know they died, but it took way too long.
3. I do not think energy passively regenerates, I dropped a couple points into energy regen, and if I hit 0, it stayed at 0
4. (Bug) Sometimes when you hit 0 energy through a hack, you can no longer hack. Interface doesn't even come up. Hoping this isn't intended.
5. (Its early in the morning forgive me) The hack that kills things, extremely powerful, especially after you level up. This is hard to fix, because nerfing an un-leveled Hacker would cripple it. So maybe just nerf the talent points specifically to not reduce it SO much?
6. I'd love more detail on "hack levels". What does it do? Syphon is obvious. The kill hack not so obvious, and recruit even less so obvious.
7. Something I'd like to see if higher level hack upgrades coming with additional bonuses at high levels. The kill one from level 6-9, make it so the enemy explodes when they die dealing 30/40/50% of their health to surrounding targets or something. Recruit 2/4/6/8 causes your recruits to do more damage 10/20/30/40%. Something like that.
8. Recruit is contradictory. Currently says "Permanently recruit an enemy", while also saying "15 second duration". It seems when I look away from a recruit, the hack will drop (I think). But if I keep watching, it will stay. Unsure what is true, life is mysterious.
8b. Opinion - For recruit, I'd personally take perma over duration any day of the week. Possibly make it so Recruit is limited in how many you can hack, starting with 1. Increasing the amount you can hack every other level, alternating with damage boosts (Or maybe attack speed would be better, OR BOTH!).
----------------------
Hot take - Currently no reason to use weapons at all, maybe this is intentional. However I think changing up Hacker a whee bit could allow for SOME weapon use. Along with more active hacking outside of just killing and recruiting.
1. Replace Virus with Syphon. Make it so Syphon Virus will drain life and energy from enemies, and spread. Make it so it doesn't take energy. Hack a few enemies, and have more of a passive energy return.
2. Replace Syphon with "Overclock", which in mplayer allows you to buff up your allies for 30 seconds. Increase reload speed, movement speed, gadget cooldown, whatever, something useful but not required. Give some support in the game. In single player, have it so hacks takes less energy for yourself, or something along that line.
I believe both of these will keep Hacker plenty busy, and open up at least some minimal use of weapons if required.
I'd still say Hacker has the most survivability once you get 2-3 levels into Syphon. I could take full hits from bosses super attacks, and I"m back to full health in a couple seconds. No RNG taunt involved. Not even close to fully leveled the hacking stats, or health.
And I'm doing damage the whole time lol.
Hacker is great, and if you make changes to Ninja, Soldier can stay as it is. I would be tempted to add a toggle mode for the hacking so you are not having to keep the right mouse button pressed.
I would even go as far as maybe getting rid of guns entirely on hacker, if you want to use weapons there are two other classes that can do it. Maybe add a weak left click projectile that shoots from the hands? Maybe you could just shoot the same energy bolts you shoot with the starting weapon, or just make Syphon left click only, without the right click. Although this bit about the weapons is not as important, as a toggle button for hacking mode might make things better already.
It would be nice if you could maybe stack virus a couple of times.
One note on the weapons, is the synergies. I don't know if synergy just impacts the weapons damage itself, or if it also impacts the hacks?
