"Game Application has stopped working"

Hello there.

I was very excited to see the Stranger's Wrath HD update come to Steam, but I seem to have a problem. Every time I try to play the game, I get to the logo screen and a window pops up stating that "A problem has caused the game application to stop working". This is incredibly vague and incredibly frustrating, so I was wondering if anyone might be having a similar issue, or ideally knew how to overcome said issue.

I'd really appreciate any help I could get on this, I can't wait to finally play this game again.

2. open control panel.
3. go to hardware and sound.
4. open nvidia control panel.
5. go to manage 3D settings.
6. go to select program to customize drop box and select "Stranger (stranger.exe)".
7. go to select preferred graphics processor drop box and select High-performance NVIDIA processor.
8. click apply.
9. now play the game.

im not the most computer literate but after a bit of this and that this is what worked for me and i hope it works for you peeps.

Yeah I've read this thing many times in differents forums, but if you don't have nvidia, what do you do haha?

i don't know but maybe follow the same steps but with your own graphics card settings. for some reason this game seems to latch onto the on-board graphics ( which cant handle it ) therefore the game crashes. you have to optimise this game through your graphics setting is my guess. as i said before im not the most computer literate but i hope what i have said is of some help.

issues such as these could be alot of things. The game is too stronge for your computer. Your graphics card is out of date.You have the graphic settings to high.

Hummm, not quite sure there's a problem with my graphic card haha. I'm running in high quality games like bioshock infinite so there's no way Oddworld could not run haha.

Prefered Graphics Processor? I can't seem to find that any where.

I have tried every fix in this forum. I have an Nvidia graphics card so I tried this first:

"Try going to Nvidia's Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Find Stranger.exe > Turn off Threaded Optimization.
Fixed my crashes on loading screen."

That literally did nothing. So then I tried:

7. go to select preferred graphics processor drop box and select High-performance NVIDIA processor.

Step 3 in that makes no sense...

I have a GTX 760 and yet no dropbox under Global or Program Settings for Preferred Graphics Processor so I can't choose High-Performance NVIDIA Processor.

I can not believe this hasn't been fixed yet, surely they have lost a fair amount of money due to refunds. I bought The Oddbox specifically for this game, i do not want a refund, i want to be able to play the game that I have paid for.

Has anyone else got any other workarounds for Nvidia graphics card users?

I'm trying to find out how to sort this on mine, I don't have NVIDIA my graphics is ATI Radeon graphics? does anyone know what to do for this one please?

Go to Program files/steam/steamapps/common/(game folder) and run the .exe as admin always try this it fixes 50% of peoples problems.

nope nothing now ive lost faith in steam now i think we can all say steam start ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ doing your quality control that gets rid of ♥♥♥♥ like this and despite basically getting it for free in th oddboxx i wish id done some research im not installing this game again with out an update

So I just bought this game because it awesome and was really pissed that it didn't work so I fine my self here BUT I also come with a solution that worked for me. I found a thread that said overlay program's mess with it so I turned of AMD Gaming evolved and YEP game works now so I suggest if anyone has the same thing running or anything similar to turn it off while playing Strangers wrath.
