And the game runs just fine at a relatively smooth 60 fps for me with drops only to 57 or so. As for controllers, I use a wireless 360 controller with absolutely no issues. I'm quite sure that most peoples issues are on their end and not due to the game itself. Like they probably have out of date drivers and such. I would say the game is worth it. Besides, it couldn't hurt to try it and refund it if it doesn't work.
I've had no framerate issues at all and I have only a gtx 980Ti on a i5-6600k w/16GB ram. The graphics are very good for an old game.
I will try 1st person view to see if that helps....
My specs aren't nearly as good as yours and I had the same fps problem from the start. What really helped me was turning anti-aliasing off.Went from about ~20 fps to 60+.
I just bought this game the other day and began playing it. IMHO, "Yes. You should buy this game.". I just heard someone on YouTube mentioning it, and checked it out. I didn't realize the game was a decade old until I looked at the Store page after playing it.
As time went on JAW simply updated the HD content into the game, further ruining the stability. Yes, you read that right. The original launch of this garbage heap was the SD version and it STILL didn't run.
After promising us free upgrades to the new one, we did eventually get the upgraded visuals. Does it matter though? No, because the game is still a mess to run and they actually ruined controls that worked at launch.
People complained that the game autodetected the xbox controllers and turned off M/Kboard. So what did the devs at JaW do? They patched it so that now it doesn't, but while controllers DID work, now they don't.
Let's not even get started on the inability to set your own control schemes in the first place.
As of 2021, I can't run this game I used to run at launch at 1080p because the screen gets massive and goes off center. If I run it in 1600x900, not my native res, it works fine but the controls are a debilitating mess.
So TLDR: Is the game worth getting?
On Xbox, or one of the HD console ports like PS3 yeah, definitely. I played the port on PS3 and it works fine for all gameplay and achievements, the PC and Steam just got screwed.
Here on steam? Hell no.
