A huge different from the first one is exploration. In the first one, we had very minimal and simple points of interests. In this one, we have hundreds of points of interests including large cave designs with secrets. Our points of interests in Salt 2 are all hand crafted as well.
Another big difference is the skill progression and crafting system. In Salt 2 you have skill levels you need to progress in order to craft more rare and epic items. There are a lot more items to craft and the system is much deeper overall. We've also made the hunger system more interesting by having a wide variety of food items with various buffs.
And of course the graphics overall is a big component. Not just visuals but also animations and general polish.
The core gameplay loop of sailing from island to island to get loot is the same but if you're looking for a more polished experience with a lot more to do then Salt 2 might be a better experience for you. But again you don't have to take my word for it. There are some streams out there you can watch that will hopefully give you a better idea if this is the game you're looking for.
Thank you for giving a proper answer to an honest question. I might look into it after all.
I see the Devs gave a key to Broadbent I suggest watching his Salt 2 gameplay video. he is a really good youtuber. Well spoken and capable of play while commentating.
