ground lock?
When selecting an enemy to attack you can press Y to enable/disable ground lock. Does anyone know what this option is exactly? Didn't see it mentioned in tutorial or encyclopedia.

By default, the hotkey for Ground Lock is 'Y'. You can see its actual state under the target info when you hover your mouse over a target. If there is no enemy standing on the same grid where you'd like to fire on a hydrazine pool, for example, then toggling the Friendly Fire Lock (FF, default hotkey is 'F') is enough to target.

AoE-capable weapons (Rocket Launcher, Flamethrower, grenades, mines, etc.) don't need to use the Ground Lock. Cryo damage and bio damage won't trigger explosions on any of the mentioned ground targets, so the Cryo grenade, CryoBlaster, or Bio-rifle will not be useful in these cases.

Additionally, you can spill out hydrazine around mobs and move away to a safe distance. Then, make these pools explode to trigger a huge AoE explosion, creating a chain reaction.

There is an encyclopedia ingame, from the main menu.
There is an official wiki : http://uscthegame.com/usccf/wiki/

However i agree some info are not well explained or detailed.

Yes none of these explain what ground lock is.

That's explained in that tutorial mission you can access from the main menu, fairly early on. Everybody hates playing tutorials, not blaming you.
'Friendliy Fire Lock' it is called, press f to toggle on and off. Watch out not to blow up your allies while its red.
You could check the Encyclopedia: Tutorial: Combat, The Combat Panel.
Or ask on the Firesquid discord, that's me answering there too though, or 3-5 other people. I'd actually recommend that. Links to it are pretty much everywhere, including the in-game main menu.
Some stuff on the wiki is outdated, and few things in the encyclopedia are too, but this isn't.

You talk about Friendly Fire Lock, but TS asked about Ground Lock - it's something different (even differents hotkeys)

No.... "ground fire lock"

You can enable and disable it by pressing Y when selecting a target. We all know what friendly fire lock is and this is different.

Any devs out there to perhaps answer this question?

I think it’s simply to fire on an empty tile with some weapons.

Defaut is you can target only targetable non friendly.
Friendly Fire, you can fire even you you touch your allies.
Ground, you can hit the ground.

I'm not sure this is correct as the enable/disable switch for ground lock will only become toggable after an enemy unit is selected to attack.

does this work, a discord link? I'm too lazy to explain:
https://discord.com/channels/811561790269816842/1021456914565054544/1265027926915809351
Basically it's only interesting when you have the option to shoot at either a flying mob or some sort of explosive ground beneath it.

Thank you for the link and explanation. :) Makes perfect sense now.

I guess it’s useful to select your target, when there is a flying unit above something else. Like if there is an explosive barrel, you may want to shot that instead of the alien above.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
