How to identify Ren?

Did i miss something or is the only method of correctly identifying it the "hint" button and then when it tells you "it must be one of these" rule the ones out it cannot be?

I really would like it to be more about the plant book....

Also Brimlock:
In the plant book it says Brimlock has "waxy and tough" leaves. When looking at the plant it just says the leaves are "smooth and waxy".

Ren is supposed to be identified by 3 things:

1) No flower
2) Compare shape of leaves with the drawing (it is not super accurate but they are supposed to be long and thin)
3) It smells either sweet, or if one has seen death then it smells unpleasant (since the MC has 'inherited' their shop we can asume there is at least a good chance it smells unpleasant for them.)
