How many people use N64 controller on 2026?

If the controller is supported on Steam, you should be able to connect it and set the buttons, but I think it has no sense.
8bitdo has xinput if you prefer.
For obvious reasons not the official N64 controller but they are N64 lookalike controllers for PC that should work yes, just look on Amazon
I have the N64 Nintendo Switch controller, and it recognizes the controller, but as a 2nd and 3rd player at the same time for some reason. I need to troubleshoot that. It would be fun to use this controller to play Agent 64.
I threw togther a quick steam input layout and uploaded it to the community page, seems to work well. Here is a button guide for anyone who wants to make their own. Make sure you start the level with keyboard and mouse first, then play with your n64 pad, enjoy!

NSO N64 PC STEAM INPUTS LAYOUT

Face Buttons
A = A
B = B
X = C Down
Y = C Left

Bumpers
LB = L
RB = R

Extended Buttons
m1 = C Right

Menu Buttons
Back = C Up
Forward = Start
O = O

Dpad = Dpad

Triggers
Right Trigger = Zr
Left Trigger = Z

Joysticks = I set both to Joystick Mouse
You can find adapters to use real n64 controllers.

I would imagine a chunk of people who buy this game would want n64 controller setups considering this game is trying to emulate those old n64 games like goldeneye/perfect dark
I would also like to have some support since I just got the M64 Controller from Modretro.

Been fighting with layout for hours now. I can't get the left/right on the thumbstick to translate to smooth horizontal aiming, while up/down are W/S. Reverse problem for C-buttons (right stick) Need up/down to be mouse vertical but left/right to be A/D for strafing.

I've tried just getting used to strafing with the stick and aiming with Cs but it's too janky and you can't aim as it 'jumps'.
Graslu00 just did a live stream where he was using an N64 controller with a ralphnet converter. I imagine an NSO N64 controller would work no problem.

Me. I have one and I'm excited to use it with this game!

Dude's an OG for sure.

I like his model with the black buttons.

Is there any way to make the analogue stick control movement and the C-buttons control aiming? Currently your template is the opposite - works well, but doesn't emulate the old (default) control schemes.

I've tried doing it myself, I can get the analogue stick to control movement but can't get the C-buttons to control aiming.
No "native" support, but I played it with an 8bitdo-modded original N64 pad and it works fine with Steam Input remapping.

It's fun to play it in that full-retro style but it does make it really clear how much better dual-stick controls are.
I got this working with the Switch N64 controller, but it took a bit of effort to setup to my liking. In the steam controller settings you need to rebind the N64 buttons to match the existing controller layout or create your own layout like MikeFightNight.

I always used Solitaire 1.2 back in the day, so I bound the N64's analogue stick to the R-stick (looking); Z to R-trigger (shoot); R to L-trigger (aim); C-buttons to the d-pad (movement). Start, A and B stay the same; X and Y I dumped on to the N64's dpad for lack of anywhere else to put them.

It's not absolutely 'perfect' (doors are opened with A, instead of B; changing weapons in a firefight is a bit fussy; navigating the menus with the c-buttons takes a bit of getting of used to) but I'm willing to put up with some minor weirdness if it means aiming and movement feel more authentic.

Maybe in the future the developer will consider adding the option to rebind the buttons in-game, or add a 'classic' control style (A and A+Z to change weapons; B to reload and open doors, etc).

The best controller is mouse and keyboard. I was playing with pad and it is good, but mouse is much better (like all the shooters)
