You only have to install EAC if you wish to play online.

Otherwise, just choose the "Play Offline without EAC" option on game launch. As long as you launch the game this way, EAC wont be used and will not be installed on your computer.

If you do choose to use EAC, know that it should work fine with Linux and Steam OS.
When playing with the EAC version, you are also recommended to keep the refresh rate of your gaming mice at 2000hz or under (this isn't unique to this particular game). This should solve any stutter issues.
