Uncharted Waters Origin

Uncharted Waters Origin

Answering gameplay questions
I've played uwo in its global since the 1st year, but moved on after the wipe.

I've been casually playing this game in another server for some months. Spent a little money there, but I want to move to here during the release.

Feel free to drop some gameplay questions and I might answer them(when I have time) or someone else feel free to that in this thread.

Oh OK, I didn't know protections count for NPCs too. But why do you say player attacks are very rare? Is it the player base tend to mind their own business? That can change depending on the player base :steammocking:, it could easily be different in a global server. Or is it like, the sea is a huge place, hard to get caught? Like the old UWOnline, it's not the open sea that's the potential problem, it's straights and narrows, like e.g. the Istanbul straight. Or port camping popular ports. I'm sure there'll be dodging techniques, it's actually an important part of the whole fun.

Due to the way this game works, battles tend to take a longer time than UWO, if youre using that as a comparison point. And adventure/trader fleets arent harmless, they can put a fight.
Yup, thanks. I actually did get a taste of both these points even from the demo.
Starter admiral choice. How critical is it? I noticed you can, and you should, do all three activities adventure, trade, battle regardless of admiral. How much of a difference does it make in initial gameplay which one you choose first? Other than the obvious, it determines your starter nation. What else should we think about when we get to choose? I mean, gameplay-wise, not flavour-wise.
I have heard Catalina and Otto are highly recommended for their combat prowess, and Ali is good at both trade and combat (his skills help with the latter). The exploration admirals lag behind (Joao and Ernst), but exploration is important in the end game as a means of acquiring high end gear. Since I will eventually acquire all 5, I will start with Catalina personally, since I like her better, and her skill set suits my play style (combat, and emergency sailing skills).
Honestly? I dont think that it really matters much in the long run. Every starter admiral can do everything. The starting nation might be important for a player, and sometimes it can be hard to change to a specific nation, so theres that.

Theres an argument for each and every one. Some of their chronicles might take longer to finish than the others though.

About their chronicles, Ernst and Joao require more levels due to requiring access to EA to finish. Ali's requires more court rank to finish his. Ernst is an interesting starter because he has a skill that makes you sail 2knots faster for 1 hour which is really good. They've really improved his story in this game too, I felt some developer bias towards him.

You will need to fight, trade and explore at least a little bit with every one of them since their first chronicle quests work as tutorials for the game.

Its really personal preference, theres no wrong choice since you will end having all of them by the end anyway. But remember that your starter will end being higher lvl than the others first because they all start with no experience when they're hired.

True, but there's a 4 hour cooldown after. Still good to use it, costs just 20 energy.

Starter admiral very much depends what one likes to focus on. The starting differences aren't that big, but they keep increasing during leveling: at level 10 they have about double in each starting stat, that means they are twice as good in what they were good at level 0 (let's say a stat which were 400 now is 800) and still weak where they were weak at level 0 (60 now is 120). B and C rated mates barely gain double in their main stats in 10 levels, and almost nothing in the others areas, so most of the fleet stats will come from the admiral (and ships and their upgrades, and armor and other gear) until we can afford A or S rated navigators.

So if you want early on to enjoy best trading, pick Ali. If you want to fight asap, then either Catalina or Otto (Catalina bit better on melee than artillery, but good on both, while Otto is mostly good in Artillery, not melee). The other two are explorers.

I for example want a lot of melee, so won't get bored with trading (but trade is a must, no matter what you pick). I don't like using artillery. The ship capture rate is small, so that's not the reason, I just like that aspect of the game more.

Don't focus too much on what is the most effective because this game isn't a sprint, it's more like a marathon. There are time gates ahead, so we will get "stuck" and advance slowly once we reach them. So pick the admiral that will bring you most fun, until you can unlock the next one. That could be weeks or months, I don't know how long.
Thanks guys, I'd buy you a beer each if I could :).

I guess I enjoy variety more than anything else. In the demo sea battling felt rather repetitive, but it might be because with those good ships we were given for free I could one-shot, one-ram or one-melee almost everything in the starter areas. I'm sure the real game will be much slower progressing and a different experience. I had Ernst, so yes I have experience of his nice speed-up skill. In theory I'll want to role play a trading company, but I know trading is mandatory for everyone anyway.

I think I'll just throw a dice, or just go by the blue gem incentive (which of course I know would land me to the least popular choice, which in turn will probably mean least number of ports for my nation, so that's disadvantages when trading). I have a couple of days still to think about it, see you guys in game :).

Question: A friend and I are looking forward to playing the game, we wonder what sort of multiplayer/coop activities are out there that we can do together, if any?(Maybe something beneficial to our progression too?)

Nothing yet other than guilds and energy gifting.

I`m hoping that something will be implemented.
Following up on that, is it possible to sail with friends through the seas/oceans as it was in UW Online? How does that work with combat?? Would it mean that my wife and I would encounter the same enemy NPC but in different self contained instances?

I find it odd that an MMO wouldn't have group based activities lol.

Theres a "follow" system, but if a ship is faster than the other it will break.
And yeah, this game is severely lacking a party system. To do things together.
The official site has a bunch of guides on it: https://uwo.floor.line.games/us/bbs/guide/guide_us/1
help with "trending" Trade good? can't seem to figure out which one is trending. Got a quest to make profit by selling trending trade good.
