Uncharted Waters Origin

Uncharted Waters Origin

Line Games is an absolutely terrible publisher
I've had the displeasure of being introduced to Line Games in one of their recent publishing works (Undecember, a decent hack&slash in terms of gameplay), and honestly it's terrible.

They don't communicate. The translation is poor. The monetization is an issue, and they increase it agressively as the player count dwindles.

They do zero advertising, zero communication outside of weirdly translated/formatted patchnotes. Their official discord has four channels, for the love of god. KR announcement, KR chat, EN announcement, EN chat. Any volunteer guild leader could do it better than their paid (?) staff. They just... don't give a ♥♥♥♥, milk CN/NA whales, and... that's it.

I have fond memories of UW but honestly I wouldn't expect anything from this. They truly are a publisher doing the very bare minimum when it comes to publishing, probably because they're cheap, I guess ? Enjoy the nostalgia trip but for the love of gods don't invest your life savings into anything they publish.

Isn't it the other way around? That in this niche there are relatively few Western spenders, and that the type of Western gamers who are into niche games are also the type to seek them out on their own (true in my case, at least)?

From what I heard, they're doing what you want them to do, but only in the East Asia, which I too, if I were them, would prioritize above all.

But they should advertise (more) to the West—not a lot, just enough to get in New & Trending on Steam for a few days (unless this game gets on there anyway).

As for a lack of communication, there isn't really an excuse, except that they probably have a strange and rigid (company) culture (I noticed weirdly formatted text too, among other little things that suggest strange ways).

So OP judges a whole developer based on assumptions and experience on one game. Good for you.. but don't go yelling its terrible based on your misguided vision.

During the demo there were daily announcements and maintenance, which I write off as good communication and care for their product. The only drawback was the time between announcement and maintenance, sometimes you had little time to reach port but thats it.

Just move along to other games and let us enjoy UWO then, no harm no foul

I have had many of the same concerns. For example, having seen what Gamigo has done to Rift, Trove, and Archeage, I would be very leery of sinking money into any game they acquired, since they put their games in maintenance mode and they steadily decline afterwards.

I believe the degree to which a company communicates is a strong factor in whether a game flourishes or not. As such, I have some concerns over sinking much money into Uncharted Waters Origin. And this is coming from a serious fan of the original games, who would love to see it become a huge success, but is happy to simply relive the experience regardless.

Have you tried Uncharted Waters Online with Papayaplay? Those publishers are much worse.

If a stable and decently polished game isn't popular enough for continued development to be profitable, then putting the game into maintenance mode is a good thing, not a bad thing. The alternative is pulling the plug.
You could be right, but this also depends on the devs, in this case a different 2 other companies. They can talk as well.
And if the game will be good, the talking from Line publisher won't be needed.
Otherwise enjoy whatever is already in, because this will sink in a year or so. I hope not, but will be their own doing if they aren't smart enough.

Agreed, I don't plan on spending one dime in game and haven't tried spending money on the Korean server either. If it becomes unplayable without paying money down the road. I have 250+ other games to play. I will enjoy it for what it is, for as long as I can.

In principle I wouldn't mind paying some modest money for convenience, for an otherwise good MMO that keeps me engaged. Like, I may play for free for six months, I stay interested after the six months, I don't miss anything substantial by playing for free, I notice something in the shop that makes my life easier (such as, extra storage, speedups, convenience items like that), OK I may put some money in (of the order of 10 euros per month or thereabouts), depending on the big picture of my finances too.

Papaya is a big no no due to the full wipe they did. I gave up UWOnline there and then, never tried the Papaya version. These guys here, well I am impatient to play the game and they aren't telling me when I'll be able to, I'm not impressed but it's far too early to pronounce them a terrible publisher.

well you can spend on certain items or not, myself see a 9.99 or 12.99 spending on speed-faster autofights , in the demo there was 6 various "packs" for x red gems and the bonuses varied , its all up to the player , servers needs to be maintained and running

Ofc you can 0 and have a good time :) and that i will think most do , as its a easy game to run on a pc you can autosail between ports (just miss all the bonus items you can pickup on sea) , im crossing my fingers many will play this when it comes out

UW Online has over 15 years worth of content on this one.

We'll get the Bucentaur, eventually XD

I guess the better option is to have no game? i never get how you people think, you'd rather have NO game, than a game if it 100% how you want it... just be happy these makes it to NA and dont need to vpn and fan translations to play...

Maybe i'm just old and remember when we just wouldn't get access to these games.

well OP prolly thinks if Line didnt do it, someone better could have done it. All i really smell is Line hating.

I'd like to apologize. I expected it to be bad, but definitely not THAT bad. UW as a gacha, fifty bucks for a 10-pull, five hundred for pity, plus five hundred for passes, plus subs and consumables. I honestly couldn't imagine them to be THAT greedy at launch.

Well, at least, now you know, you won't invest hundred of hours in a poorly managed game before getting shafted :-)
