Start as Ernst?

Was thinking of some laid back exploration. Seems like you also get rewards for playing as a starter few people pick and I hear everyone just picks Catalina.
Can you start a new game as a different character or would you have to reset or something?

I believe starting a new game does require deleting an account, or start on a new server. I'd say test it out, since it is a demo. But I personally think admirals matter a little, compared to the nation you are in.

30 lvl then can change to any starter admiral

Do they each have a unique story like SNES game or are the differences just purely mechanical?
Also I guess they don't have Pietro...?

They all have unique stories, made by the devs. Pietro isn't included at the start, devs said Italy isn't a nation at the time of the game, so they decided to take him out.

Will see if our game is year behind or same as KR.

Pietro is in the game, just not as a starter. You can get him from the game's store when you're a higher level, and play his story then.

There's a few other new characters you can unlock and play, it seems. Hayreddin's son and Anne Bonny among them.
