severe performance issues on steamdeck?
game runs terrible on the steamdeck, seeing sub 30 fps in the tutorial.

the turning speed and game speed seems to be tied to the framerate making the game extremely frustrating and annoying to play.

i’m seeing posts saying the 1.0 release messed it up and how there was talk of a patch fixing it, however that was quite long ago.

are there any ways to increase performance on the user end? or am i just somehow missing a patch?

I'm having the same issue. It's too bad because it looks fun! But I'll probably refund because this is unplayable.

I think its linux. A year or 2 ago id tried this game when i used windows and it ran just perfect. Recently i tried to play it again but im running linux and i see fps drops in the starter area like you said.

done a refund because of this, would be great to play this on deck, when ever i look at the castle fps drops

yeah it runs like crap on the deck I played during the beta and stopped because it ran so bad on the deck. LIke a pixel /low poly game should not run like dookie cakes on a system like the deck.

they need to remove the verified status to 'not supported' until they figure their stuff out, its misleading.

Found this/came here due to performance issues on the ally x. Framerate is all over the place. Going to refund and maybe pick it up again in a few months to see if performance gets ironed out. Shame.

It plays great on the pc with a mouse and keyboard been playing since beta I started on the deck it used to perform good than they did one update and it just wasn’t good after it’s a little better now but runs better on pc and really a shame for such a low poly game many others of similar style run better

I was literally gonna search for this in the forums. A game with this type of graphics shouldn't run as bad as it is; game runs AND looks worse than ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Baldur's Gate 3 on Deck! :angry_seagull:

i think the poor optimization comes from everything in your area being loaded in even if you’re unable to see any of it

you can go from 60fps down to 15 just by turning 180°

i ended up chugging through and getting used to it since it’s mostly just a story game and the combat isn’t really the main focus at all.

overall, i’d say the game is still worth playing on the steamdeck if you’re interested, the storytelling and writing is really the majority of the game tbh.

I mean Elden ring runs well on it for god sake !

But Lunacid / corn kids / Toree / super kiwi 64 / lunistice all run amazing on the deck and are all Saturn / ps1 style poly games.

It’s literally just something with this game the devs need to sort out.

I started on the deck and it used to run great during early access / beta etc but they did one update during EA and than it started to have bad performance. It’s now better than it was but not by much. I just play it on my pc now I’m also bummed I lost my og save from early access was pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ of the dev to do that now I’m starting over on pc but the motivation isn’t there like it was when I started in ea.

The starting area has the biggest frame drops, after you make it past the stating castle the frame rate improves. I suspect that theres simply too many polygons being rendered on screen and its making the unity engine itself sweat. Having infinite viewing distance makes a great view of the sky islands seeing all the detail very far away but it cost the performance.

I think the option to add fog and render distance would go a long way for optimization.
