Edit a save file
I must have been way too tired but I accidentally picked the wrong option at the very end of the ethics of eating flesh quest. I don't want to keep playing the game because that wasn't the decision I made. Normally, I would just go back to an auto-save or roll back. However, this game REFUSES to have different saves for scenarios like that.

I work full-time and I don't really want to go ALL THE WAY back to the start of a new game just for this one case. I even tried to unplug my ethernet afterwards, deleting my save file locally, but the steam was able to sync my save file.

Can anyone please let me know how to edit this save file so I can keep playing?

This is such a unique game but honestly I don't want to replay everything just for this one scenario.

Developers, PLEASE allow players the option to manually save for times like this.

Maybe ask in the discord also? I'm not sure the devs still read this forum.

I was copying the save files manually during my playthrough every hour or so. When I had an issue with a different quest, this post helped me (spoilers): https://steamcommunity.com/app/1574240/discussions/0/6369856709168063323/#c6369856944156087909

Opening the save file with a hex editor and changing the relevant event ID to random symbols of the same length should reset that particular event flag.

Thank you Hawke!

I just started a new game and since I knew what to do, it took a lot less than I thought it would. I also managed to get to the clockwork city area before even finishing hallowshire so I got to explore a lot I didn't before. I also missed a few things in hallowshire so no big deal.
I feel like this game would benefit heavily from an overhaul to the save file system, being able to reload older saves would be a life saver, not just for the choices, but especially with how many bugs this game has. I keep reading about people's save files being corrupted or bricked or softlocked due to bugs, which could be avoided if they could just have multiple saves for a single playthrough.

Agreed. Though, as mentioned, I was hard-saving about every other hour, but failed to notice the bug on time (quests disappearing from the journal) and had to poke around to unblock the main quest, because I didn't want to reload.

Just in case, the bug was reported as resolved and anything more easily noticeable should be possible to fix by having a TES-like saving system (many manual saves).
