What build/style do you like most?
Usually it would be kind of easy for me to decide between melee, stealth, mage, but this game I'm unsure. There are also utility choices that seem stronger in this game than others like lockpick and charm.

During EA I just did mage mage mage background choices, but I'm getting indecisive. I don't really want to mess around with multiple playthroughs.

There's no builds, more or less you'll just be collecting gear that gives you a +skill, maxing it out for the +30 and juggling equipping stuff for what you need.

Magic has horrible hitboxes, so it's best used for utility (healing, speed, etc) so you're really left with melee or ranged (bow) you can collect a godly amount of throwing knives, but you'll kill things faster with just a charged hit or 2 than slinging knives or arrows at someone.

pick starting options that give you charm, and if you can lore (idk if you can have both) charm if you can have just 1. And then alternate between guile, wisdom, and charisma. So that you can pick the locks you need, pass the charm checks, and activate lore items for secrets

Is there even builds? Even ignoring the skill options at the start its pretty obvious the game wants you to min max or split between wisdom and I rogue based skills. Since lore and lockpicking are used heavily in game and combat becomes a joke.

there's no builds possible, it's not that sort of game

yeah this is what i'm talking about. it just seems like it's not balanced very well and that i would be shooting myself in the foot by just doing "what I wanted to". thanks

For more input, I mainly put points into guile for lockpick, agility then some wisdom for lore, since you can get charm buff from the Union in the first major town and just farm a ton of free exp from exploring and completing quests. Honestly strength, and barter are just worthless in general.

Pretty happy investing in Personality and Wisdom, opens up more options for approaching things. Guile is also super useful with a lot of items and even delusions being locked up some times.

If you plan on killing your way through the game, Might is an obvious choice. You really can't go wrong just play what comes naturally to you.

Stealth strikes kill most things even with basic strength.

TLDR:

The only real choice is which skills to tag in chargen. All other choices become obsolete by midgame.

For RP reasons my preference is Lore/Spellcasting.
The optimal build is Charm/Agility.
An argument can be made for Lore/Agility.

---
First Skill Choice:

Attack/Lockpick/Lore/Charm
Combat is easy, lockpicks can be bought and spammed, so the only real choice is between Lore and Charm.

I pick Lore for RP reasons, but Charm is the better choice. There are skill checks that are hard or impossible to pass if you don't pick Charm at chargen, many of which you have to pass or fail on the very first try.
---
Second Skill Choice:
Defense/Agility/Spellcasting/Barter
Combat is easy, money is plentiful once you figure out how alchemy upgrades treasure, so the only real choice is between Agility and Spellcasting.

I picked Spellcasting for RP reasons, but Agility is the better choice. Combat spells aren't better than a bow, and utility spells don't care about your skill. By contrast, move speed is ALWAYS relevant. There's a LOT of walking, exploring, and running past enemies in Dread Delusion.
---
Stat Choice:

This is identical to levelling up, and so has no long term impact. I upgrade stats in the following order:

Persona for Charm checks during quests.
Guile for move speed. Pick this first if you don't care about quests.
Wisdom for Lore and Mana, which become increasingly relevant in mid-late game.
Might last, since combat is already too easy, even on the new 'hard mode'.

I´m going for charm/lore build right now with possibility just to raise HP/Stamina with gear (or upgrade it ) - it doesn´t seem so far the combat is way too difficult, hardly spend healing or other pots at all.

You will be able to play around with items and buffs to the point that you can pretty much get any stat that you need to do anything you want. But for starters I found Persona/Charm and Wisdom/Lore to be useful, the first of the two especially. Don't underestimate Guile/Agility, it really lets you pull off some insane jumps to reach secret locations, and I found it helps out with combat a lot more than Might/Attack does, because it lets you dodge by simply running backwards or sideways as you charge up attacks or spells.
