problem launching munch' oddyssee
I tried playing around with the settings that a previous post mentioned on here and it got me SOMEWHERE at least, I now have an icon for munch, and when i try launching it now comes up with an error message saying:

the program cant start because d3dx9_29.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

thing is this would be the 2nd time I re-download munch's oddyssee now -.- so it cant be anything i'm doing, what on earth is that d3dx9_29.dll anyways?

Same problem except my directx was completely updated. I even downloaded the very new 11.1 update and it still did not work.

How i fixed it is i realized that i was using the wrong application. There is one named Launcher (Launcher.exe) and Munch (Munch.exe). 1)start by finding Munch (Munch.exe) file. Unless you saved it somewhere else it shoud have defaulted it to X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Oddworld Munchs Oddysee\bin. 2) Right click the Munch.exe application file and select properties from the drop down. 3) select the compatibility tab. 4) Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode" and from the list, select windows 95 (I haven't tried it with any of the other choices). 5) Check the boxes for "Disable visual themes" "Disable desktop composition" and farther down check the box for "Run this program as an administrator.

Before i did this my game wouldn't start, and if i used the launcher.exe file it would give me that d3dx error message. It is weird because the default shortcut, put onto my desktop automatically after install, was a shortcut to the launcher.exe file which didn't work. This should fix any launch errors unless you don't have the latest version of directx.

Now I am trying to fix a problem where right after i pick my save icon, start the game, and skip/watch the opening movie, my game crashes and exits to desktop after a few seconds of gameplay. Once i checked the boxes "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition," like in the above tutorial, i was able to run the gameplay for a few more seconds but still not long enough to even leave the starting room. Hope this helps and wish me luck:)

Go to the munch install folder. Go to the bin folder find the launcher.exe and munch.exe. Enable the "Run this as an administrator" on both. And also turn on the "Run this program in compatibility mode".

Then run the game. Start new game and let it load (Will spass out and take a while but eventually it should load the level)
Move a little and save the game. Shut down. And turn of compatibility mode on both. Restart the game and load your previous save. It sounds weird but this worked for a number of people. In my case I just struggled through the raisin cave, let it load, saved and did what I just described. After that the game worked like a charm.
Talking about weird potential fixes:)

Games based on legacy tech can be a pain on modern systems:p
