None of the videos are playing [Proton/WINE]
I normally wouldn't bring this here cause I know Steam users generally aren't very friendly towards the Linux crowd, but eh, Munch's Oddysee without the videos is a handicapped Munch's Oddysee.

I'm trying to play Munch's Oddysee on Linux, via Proton/WINE, and everything works great. The only problem is the videos are not playing. This includes the videos that act as background animations for different menus. I did some checking around, tried a variety of different solutions and, long story short, it seems like there could possibly be a problem with the WMV2 codec. Either it's absent from the Proton install or is present but buggy. But I honestly don't know. The process of elimination is what is pointing me to this conclusion. The next thing I was going to try was re-encoding the videos using some different codecs, but I thought before I did that, I would ask here first.

So does anybody have any information or experience with this? Is there a developer that can weigh in on this? Possibly one that has already, or is willing to install Linux?

Did you figure it out? (Is it any better with a more recent Proton?)

Which distro, by the way?

No, I haven't had any luck yet. I'm pretty sure it's a codec problem, but nothing I've tried has gotten them to work yet. It looks like the codecs it wants come with wmp9, or are preinstalled in windows, and are 32bit only, while Proton installs are all 64bit. And those codecs have already had a long history of not working with WINE. So it's all a bit tricky.

The good news is that it seems there has been recent developments on this front, a little over a week ago. Thanks to some fun trickery, it's now possible to "install" wmp9 on 64bit setups. But it still hasn't fixed the cutscenes for Munch's. It's progress though.

I'm on KDE Neon.

I've gotten the videos working through wine and winesteam by using a 32 bit prefix and installing wmp9 using lutris' version of wine lutris-6.0. The most recent version of wine staging seems to break it again. The only problem is that the camera controls seem to be broken where the camera won't stop spinning if you turn it unless you turn the stick the other way. I've also tried the gog release via lutris which also has the videos playing and doesn't seem to use wmp9, but it sadly has the same camera issue.
