Chapter 1 - Cannot get into Poirot's room?

I have gathered all of the clues regarding Poirot's room, but the game is still locked in on the action called "Inspect the east rooms" and therefore detective always says that he needs to make sure it's his room. I know about the plant and that da Silva is my neighbour, as well as the guestlist in the hall. Is there some sort of set of rules on how Poirot can get into his room?

I missed the painting of the saints on the first floor. Maybe that is what you are missing also

Just come across the same issue. Clicking on the painting of the Saints resolves the issue. It would help if the game would give you a hint when people get stuck. Especially when it's not obvious like the painting.

I had same problem. It finally allowed me in after : I went back and tried to get in every room of east wing even those I knew were not his

I am having same problem in Ch.1. and being stuck. "Inspect the east rooms" is the only available task. There are no more links available. All conversations are exhausted. I checked the painting of the saints. All 4 eastern rooms are locked I tried to enter them all. I checked all flower - the ugly one too. How to continue?

my issue was kinda same, when i got stuck i just had to inspect all the plants on the east wing and then it allowed me in

Problem resolved for me. Reason: One dialogue was still unused though not signaled.

Sometimes you can only leave a room, when you have finished all options (Dialogs, Mind map).

Not sure if this is exactly what happened here, but:

Say you are in a conversation and there are still some dialog options available. But you instead choose to leave the conversation, perhaps because you intend to work on a mind map first. Now the exclamation mark that signals available dialogue options no longer appears when you are standing next to the character. That makes it seem like it's no use talking to that character. However, if you would try anyway, you'd see that there are still dialog options available.

It's like the exclamation mark means "there are dialog options that you haven't yet seen", while you would expect it to mean "there are dialog options that you haven't yet used". I thought that was quite confusing.

What further exacerbates this, is that the exclamation mark only seems to appear if you did something specific to trigger the availability of that new dialog option. The exclamation mark does not appear if the dialog option becomes available automatically, for example at the start of a new day or after a cutscene.

So while you expect the lack of an exclamation mark to signal that it is no use talking to a character, what the absence of the exclamation mark really means is one of the following:
a) There's no dialog options available.
b) There's dialog options available, but you've already seen them.
c) There's dialog options available that you haven't yet seen, but you did nothing special to unlock those.

It's a bit peculiar.

i am stuck in this section as well. I only see 2 rooms in the east wing. I can't conclude that the one room is Poirot's room. All conversation and links are concluded. Keeps saying to investigate the east wing rooms. Help please?

Did you check every interactable object? In my case, there was an object I missed and some things that branched off of that.

In case it helps. the object I hadn't found which opened up dialogues etc which finally led me to being able to get into the room was the price tag on the vase just to the right of Angeline

there are actually 2x2 rooms in the east wing and also the need to have some dialogs before
