How to use the laser mining drill for mining?

I've found a laser mining drill but its not a tool but a 2h Ranged Weapon. In the description it says "An advanced laser for cuttin rock and carving tunnels when underground..."

You might be overthinking it.
When you find 'secret' areas they often have rock walls you can smash with a weapon. I imagine this is all it means. It can remove those rocks.
I could be wrong but I have just been getting a few of those myself and didn't get the impression it was for mining but I can see why someone would.

Yeah +1. I got the intention that this is just a fire based rifle.

batterys are everywhere mostly with laser weapon at the market floor maps caves
