Nanomage seems not viable atm, ive played so far (BO...5 i think) primarly with pistols with 1H+ shield in the secound slot, if anything *really* want to cuddle. Played a bit around with Rifles, cant say that it feels all to different from pistols.
You can easily beat the entire game by left clicking on enemies and using no skills or adrenaline whatsoever.
Its just busted.
After that.... its Pistol! Same deal, no skills, no adrenaline needed. Not quite as good as rifle.
Annnnd after that it is Bow!
Notice a trend lol?
The big problem with weapons is that they wear out very quickly. You can craft repair kits but just be aware that they reduce the items max durability so you will end up eroding your weapon quickly if you use those excessively. When you combine this fast wearing out and excessive repairing wearing them out it becomes a real juggling act. Then because you don't want to repair too often you have to closely monitor the items wear status because they don't go to your inventory when they break they simply vanish.
Ranged weapons miss a lot, jam even more than they miss and require ammo. Those things stand to somewhat mitigate just how awfully powerful ranged weapons are but even with those negatives it's still preferable to taking melee damage and getting so many bleeds, broken bones etc etc.
For me any one thing there is fine but when you smash the whole lot together it's just tedious.
You can make better repair kits but at the time you can start making those the amount of copper required for them is fairly prohibitive. Be sure to grab every bit of copper you pass at all times.
Don't underestimate grenades. I don't use them much but in certain situations... really handy.
You can use barricades almost anywhere.
There are a lot of other weapons that I never tried like Molotov cocktails etc.
Melee while 2h does more damage, 1h+Shield will not get as much damage and you can do funny things with the extra attacks from countering. While 2h has a nice movement ability. :D
All melee builds suffer against most of the ranged enemies so you want to take them out before you deal with the melee mobs. Because if they shoot at you 2-3 times until you are you might as well just shoot them before they even see you.
The game becomes much more enjoyable once I started to use rifles and I wish I started that way.
Yep, that's what I'm currently trying, but I'm still struggling in certain encounters. I can handle most encounters well but when there are 3-4 ranged enemies with status effects, it can be unmanageable. But most of the time I can handle 1-2 of them if I use those dashes.
I entered the Market recently and surprised to find camped out directly in front of the narrow entrance were 3-4 of those monsters that spread acid puddles plus one of those bleeding spike throwers. That and a bunch of melee monsters surrounding me almost made me quit the whole game entirely. Maybe it's my bad luck and bad decision that I didn't destroy the cocoon fast enough. With that said, grenades were supremely helpful that time.
But I survived and now can enjoy the game again haha.
If you're referring to me, no, I am not attempting a melee only challenge and not refusing to use ranged at all.
What I wrote below was probably not clear:
> The game becomes much more enjoyable once I started to use rifles and I wish I started that way.
I switched to a hybrid melee and ranged build midgame when I realised my normal habit of going single weapon build in most games I'd played only makes the game more difficult if I stuck to melee. So I started using rifles around B2-B3 and that's when things became a lot easier.
Most of the time I use 2H melee, but I switch to ranged when dealing with annoying ranged monsters. I'm currently having fun killing monsters with my Chopping Axe and occasionally use the mining laser as needed.
It's just that because I started the game by investing my perks mostly in 2H melee, my ranged perks (rifles) are lacking. Not enough to stop me from progressing, but I can imagine if swap the investment around, things would probably be easier. I don't how far I am from the end game, but maybe there's still time to add more ranged perks.
From what i've read theres 10 floors?
I barely got to B2, i am a loot goblin so i am taking multiple trips on every floor for every container, item etc, no loot left behind.
Frankly i am quite overpowered for B2, with military grade armor, corpse sword n shield and rifle.
But as you said, im mainly using rifle to deal with ranged stuff or stuff that deal damage when they die.
its quite funny, melee only run would be hell while ranged only would be a cake walk more or less.
If it’s indeed 10, then there’s hope for me still haha. I’ve just recently entered B4.
Yeah, I’m a loot goblin as well and since the infection increases with time (which I presume also introduces more challenging monsters), that’s probably why I’m dealing with difficult ranged enemies. It also doesn’t help that I do all my side quests before I go underground again.
From hindsight, I play games mostly to relax and at most, be mildly challenged, so sticking with 2H melee for the first 2 floors was a bad choice. But that’s what I
get for going into the game blind haha.
You can win the game (with at least one ending) after getting to the 7th floor.
Ah, noted. Thanks for the clarification. I’m halfway there then.
