Controller Support Issue

I've been looking around google, and I cannot seem to find a solution for my controller issue. AE refuses to recognize my controller. This is the case when I am using the controller configuration option through steam. Has anyone found a way to reliably use a gamepad (PS4 controller) on this game?

EDIT: so for me it worked with my wired xbox one controller but i think it is made for all gamepads

Ive seen that thread, but I would love to be able to find a work-around without downloading outside programs. Just a pain in the butt is all, ha.

It took me a while, but I think I figured out all the configuration options to get my XBox controller to work, including the speak commands. So excited that I made a guide:

The guide works. Tested it last night. It also works with some other older games too that don't have native controller support
