Yep, it's 2022 and there are still new games released without ultrawide resolutions. But you can get down to 320x200 ... :sbconfused:

Eh.. Ultra wide on some games is sometimes in the wrong display size, even if its for spicific sizes of monitor types.
Mine can run a 3440 x 1440 recommended. But some games scale the width wrong.
2560 x 1440 fixes that In most cases but that's not the ultra wide res size I use normally. But it's just a minor detail I found out with Ultra wide screen size's.

wellp demo couldn't do 21:9 sadly :(
SleuthSlayer Feb 23, 2022 @ 8:34pm
Would 21:9 work for this game? I feel like it would lessen the obstacles, like if you need to put the sail down you would have more warning. Not game breaking I suppose, but still lessens the atmosphere a bit imo.

The first game ( Far lone sail ) supports ultra-wide( mine is 2560*1080 ). But I've tried this demo and there is no ultra-wide resolution( Max resolution is 1920*1080) I hope they will add in full game later.

I'll buy it anyway because the original was great. Ultrawide 3440X1440 would be awesome. though for such a nice looking game.

Download HdX hex editor just google it
Step 1. Open HxD and drag UnityPlayer.dll (your drive letter steamapps->common->FAR Changing Tides Demo) into it

Step 2. Press ctrl+f to open find (or Search -> find) then change Datatype to "Hex-values" and search for "39 8E E3 3F"

Step 3. "39 8E E3 3F" will be highlighted simply hit the left arrow key until you get to 39 and replace with the value for your aspect ratio. Don't delete or anything just move to 39 and start typing, it will replace as you go. (5760x1080 = AB AA AA 40 / 3440x1440 = 8E E3 18 40 / 2560x1080 = 26 B4 17 40)

Step 4. Press ctrl+s to save (or press the floppy disc icon) it will automatically save a backup of the original as mgsvtpp.exe.bak in the original folder.

Step 5. Open HxD and drag GameAssembly.dll (your drive letter steamapps->common->FAR Changing Tides Demo) into it

Step 6. Press ctrl+f to open find (or Search -> find) then change Datatype to "Hex-values" and search for "39 8E E3 3F"

Step 7. Look for 39 8E E3 3F and change EVERY Instance to 60 E5 18 40

I'm using the borderless gaming app and it seems to be working okay, ill update you as I play through
Pac Of Man Mar 1, 2022 @ 1:50pm
Well I gave it a punt, seems like its just cutting the bottom off my screen, might wait for proper support or a workaround.
Moon Man Mar 1, 2022 @ 2:15pm
I would buy if there was ultrawide support as any game should have in 2022
Kecske Mar 1, 2022 @ 3:07pm
+1, why would you remove it, when it worked just fine in the first game?!
Especially since it's even harder to see ahead in the sequel.

Same. Not great, but better than black bars.

Supports ultra wide screen?
21:9?

This trick works in several games:

With help from the WSGF (Wide Screen Gaming Forum) we found a workaround.

You need a hex editor like HxD[mh-nexus.de] or whatever you prefer.

Then you open the Assembly-CSharp.dll file
(Can be found in steamapps\common\Dear Esther Landmark Edition\DearEsther_Data\Managed)
in the editor click ctrl+f to open the search bar
and search for these values 39 8E E3 3F
(make sure to change the data type from text string to hex values or it wont find anything)
and then replace them with these values CD 90 18 40 and click the save icon to save the changes.

HxD should have made a backup of the file by itself but if something get messed up you can delete the file and verify game cache to download a fresh version from steam :)

Now you can open the game but it will still have black bars, all you then need to do is put the game into windowed mode and then use Borderless Gaming [github.com] to make the game use the entire screen.
(You'll get a list of programs in BG. Just click on dear esther and click the box with the arrows going outwards)

So it doesn't.. thx for the info I don't need to do the devs job, if they are too lazy to do their job then its their problem, I'll pass.
