Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

Playing with a Xbox 360 controller
I am trying to play the demo with a Xbox 360 controller, but I have a hard time figuring out the controls. The D-Pad does not seem to be recognized and for some bizarre reason, "Action" is bound to Ctrl by default. Also the game does not let me rebind the controls the way I see fit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also tried the demo. Go into options/controls.
Set up the controls as following:

http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Oddworld:_Abe's_Oddysee/Controls

A - crouch
B - throw
X - action
Y - jump
LB - run
RB - sneak

Dpad doesn't work, but the analog does.

Speech:
use LB + A,B,X,Y and RB+ A,B,X,Y to talk.

Press LB+RB to chant.

These are almost the original PSX controls. I think RT and LT were the speech modifiers, but the game does not recognize those two buttons....no matter.

Tbh the game did come out in 1997, so I wouldn't expect those kinds of options to really exist with it

True, but since it has been made available on Steam, I would have expected a few updates.

Also, is there a way to unbound the Crouch button? I honestly do not need it, since hitting Down does just that.

No one is developing games from the 1990's it's just still being sold. Old games use Dinput, if you have a Dinput controller, the D-pad and L2/R2 should work.

Classic games like these are the reason I bought a hybrid Dinput/Xinput controller. Works just fine in 100% of games.

Yea, I'm getting another controller, and that's why I decided to get an F710 this time around instead of another X360.

mine works fine, you need to go to options, then controls will have keyboard and controller options and just configure through that.

I have all the regular controls working on my 360 controller, and I use 1-10 numbers for voice. It's not perfect but it gets the job done. I'm sure after I get to play New n' Tasty with full dedicated controller support I'll be much happier though.

With Abe's oddessy, set "speech 1" and "speech 2" to L1 and R1, they are the same buttons as run and sneak, so that's that, set action to O, it needs to be O (B) if you want the speech to be completely right when you hold L1 or R1.
That leaves 3, I use Triangle (Y) for Jump, X (A) for crouch, and Square (X) for Throw.

If you want the Dpad to function, download Xpadder, start it up and activate the Dpad, then just set the dpad directions to the keyboard arrow keys, that way you press Dpad buttons on the controller and the program reads it as a keyboard arrow key. Old thread, but done :)

I am using a Steam controller and having no end of trouble with this.

I run into trouble when I try and map the 'A' button as crouch. The game won't accept the 'confirm' button as a valid key to be set as crouch. This means I cannot use all of the voice commands.

Is there a way around this. Do i need to setup a new configuration that changes the A button to a random key?

Also the D pad directions aren't recognised, only the analogue stick weirdly enough. I have tried setting them as the directional keys but this doesn't work either.

This game doesn't seem to work well with the steam controller at all...
