Blue Prince é um jogo de Puzzle, Aventura e Rogue Lite que, assim como "Balatro" no ano passado, herda elementos de vários gêneros e nos entrega algo “novo”. Este ano, temos o “jogo mais bem avaliado”: Blue Prince.

Você controla Simon P. Jones, que herda uma mansão misteriosa de 45 cômodos deixada por seu tio-avô falecido. Na carta de despedida, ele explica que, para ficar com toda a sua fortuna, Simon precisa explorar a mansão e encontrar o Quadragésimo Sexto Quarto. O detalhe é que, por algum motivo, o layout da casa muda todas as noites — e é você quem escolhe qual quarto estará por trás de cada porta.


Começamos na entrada principal, com três portas disponíveis para iniciar a exploração. Algumas regras são estabelecidas:
- Não podemos passar a noite na casa.
- Temos uma quantidade limitada de "passos" (cada entrada em um cômodo consome 1 passo).
- Os itens encontrados na mansão devem permanecer nela.
- A cada porta aberta, podemos escolher entre três opções de cômodos.

Cada cômodo possui um tipo e efeito diferente. Por exemplo:
- Quartos roxos são dormitórios e concedem mais passos.
- Quartos vermelhos têm efeitos negativos.
- Quartos verdes oferecem itens e possibilidades extras de exploração.

Outra mecânica importante é que as portas precisam se conectar logicamente. Se você acabar em um beco sem saída e não houver mais como progredir para o norte da mansão... é game over.

As mecânicas, que inicialmente parecem complexas, vão ficando mais naturais com o tempo esse é o “coração” do jogo. A cada tentativa, você encontra novos cômodos e ganha mais recursos para explorar.

Apesar de ser um Rogue Lite, ele não transmite a sensação de “começar do zero”. A cada novo quarto, você adquire conhecimento que te leva mais longe. O jogo, inclusive, sugere o uso de papel e caneta para anotar tudo (como eu fiz — e valeu muito a pena!).

Embora a história pareça simples, Blue Prince tem uma forma peculiar e sutil de contar sua narrativa. Todos os cômodos, cenários, livros, cartas e puzzles contribuem para isso. É muito legal como vamos formando os personagens em nossa cabeça, mesmo sem grandes cinemáticas ou diálogos expositivos.


Dito tudo isso: esse jogo exige muita paciência. Nem sempre as coisas vão sair como você espera, e isso pode ser bem frustrante — principalmente quando você já está avançado e precisa de combinações específicas de cômodos e itens para resolver certos puzzles.

Além disso, o jogo não tem um caderno de anotações ou sistema para guardar os documentos que você encontra. Isso torna o papel e caneta praticamente obrigatórios. Embora eu tenha curtido essa experiência mais "analógica", entendo perfeitamente quem não quer ter que lidar com isso.

Temos meses de conteúdo aqui, devido à natureza do jogo. É uma verdadeira amálgama de mistérios e puzzles avançados. Blue Prince vai muito além do objetivo principal — há vários enigmas secundários para resolver, e eu achei esse aspecto relaxante.


A ambientação de Blue Prince é, sem exageros, impecável. Cada canto da mansão parece ter sido cuidadosamente pensado para reforçar o mistério e a sensação de descoberta. Não há nada fora do lugar. Todos os elementos, visuais e sonoros, trabalham juntos para criar uma atmosfera envolvente e densa.
A trilha sonora é impecável e marcante e acompanha a exploração com um clima de contemplação que encaixa perfeitamente com a proposta do jogo. É uma experiência singular de imersão e mistério.


Blue Prince é uma experiência fantástica para quem gosta de exploração, puzzles desafiadores e um toque de mistério. Há muito conteúdo para ser descoberto e apreciado, o suficiente para te acompanhar por semanas ou até meses. A ambientação é cuidadosamente construída, os puzzles são inteligentes e variados, a trilha sonora é belíssima e a história, mesmo contada de forma sutil, é muito satisfatória de desvendar.

Mas nem tudo são flores. A presença do fator sorte pode ser frustrante em alguns momentos, e a falta de ferramentas básicas, como um caderno interno ou salvamento de pistas, pode afastar jogadores menos dispostos a fazer anotações manuais. Esse definitivamente não é um jogo para se jogar com pressa.

Se for jogar, recomendo de verdade manter um caderno e lápis por perto. O que você anotar ali vai ser seu verdadeiro progresso. O conhecimento que você guarda é o que te faz avançar. Poético, né?

Infelizmente, o jogo ainda não tem tradução para o português, o que pode dificultar o acesso para muita gente. Mas se você estiver no clima certo, como eu estava, vai valer muito a pena.

Esse jogo é um absurdo.

Tudo nesse jogo foi extremamente bem pensado. Ele é um dos melhores, se não o melhor, jogo de puzzle que eu já joguei. Mas eu sei que a maioria se frustraria bastante com ele.

Ele não segura na sua mão, você tá por conta própria em uma mansão de mistérios que só parece se expandir. Um lugar onde se você não for atrás da história, ela nunca irá atrás de você.

Todos os detalhes parecem que foram refinados ao extremo pra se encaixar em todos os lugares, tudo parece ter uma explicação e um motivo, nada é por acaso. O RNG realmente se torna bem frustrante na parte final do jogo (a parte final do jogo não são as 10 horas que a maioria das reviews negativas tem. A maior parte do jogo você tem tanta coisa pra fazer que o RNG nunca vai impedir todas, você só precisa anotar os seus objetivos e se adaptar)

Nem vou entrar no mérito da história e da arte, é simplesmente lindo. Nunca pensei que iria chorar com o rascunho de um livro em um videogame, ainda mais de um livro que já tinha sido narrado e que eu já tinha chorado escutando a narração.

Eu faço essa review com o sentimento que ainda estou longe de acabar esse jogo e de que essa jornada realmente não tem fim e, sinceramente, espero que seja assim.

This is a game for absolute puzzle degenerates. When you are considering whether you want to buy Blue Prince, you really need to look within and determine if, deep within your soul, you yearn for obsessive note-taking, screenshotting, and putting up a corkboard with a lot of red yarn and crazed theories. If the answer is yes, Blue Prince is here to sate your hunger like nothing has for years, and you're going to be raving about your GOTY. If not... you can still learn to love that, but it's not a sure thing.

I have made it to room 46 and seen the credits. I have, in collaboration with a group of friends who also picked up the game at the same time, done a lot more than that. (Incidentally, I think this is best played collaboratively. There is so, so much here that it will take incredibly long to find it all yourself. But that's personal taste). So I'm going to be breaking this into sections: Pre-46 and Post-46.

Pre-46 is where Blue Prince is at its most roguelike. You have your goal of getting deep into the house, even if it's not *entirely* clear how you're going to get there. You will quickly realize that this is not a puzzle game in the way that , say, The WItness is a puzzle game. It's much more about exploration and learning. There are smaller metapuzzles in this period, giving you access to some permanent upgrades to make your house-delving easier. Every run you're encountering rooms you haven't seen before, uncovering mechanics you haven't run into yet. It's exciting!

As time goes on, you're going to start getting annoyed with the "roguelike" portion of the game. It's going to feel like it's getting in the way of what you're trying to do. You can see so *clearly* what you're trying to accomplish, but the game isn't letting you just *do* it. Maybe it's running into one too many locked doors when you've almost reached the antechamber, maybe it's the specific room you're trying to find just. not. spawning. Maybe it's a string of drafts where your only non-dead-ends are gem rooms, and your reserve runs dry. Maybe you run out of steps just short of your goal. And it's frustrating. Why does the game need these mechanics anyways? Couldn't it just be like Myst or Riven?

And then things start to open up again. This is more post-46 than pre-46, but eventually you've piled up enough permanent advantages that they start to snowball. And yes, the game is getting more... exacting with some of its asks, but you've got the resources to make this... not trivial, but tolerable. And without the pressure of that Obvious Goal, a day that doesn't accomplish anything--and that's actually rarer than you'd think--is easier to shrug and move on from. And more than that, as you start to get this more zoomed out view, it starts to become clear: no, the game really is built around this--both mechanically and narratively. And it is woven very, very densely. This game is clever.


Most likely, you've got more than a few loose-threads from your pre-46 days. And now you have all the time in the world to follow up on them. And you'll do that, and then you're going to reach the end of those threads. But it's clear that you're not done. And so begins the Scouring.

Blue Prince does not trade in red herrings. If something stands out to you, it is probably part of something, even if you don't know what. Somewhere in here you probably transcribe your notes into a new, more organized format, because you're tired of trying to search through your notes for that one thing you noted earlier that this new thing reminds you of. You start trying goofy stuff with your drafts, and it turns out that uncovers new stuff, too. If a run in here doesn't pan out for one particular goal, it probably works for another, or at the very least, you can work on setting up future runs.

And the story and world are going to slowly come together, and time and time again you are going to be impressed by just how well everything fits together. And you're going to hit a point in a metapuzzle where you get some new big reveal, and everything will feel worth it. And "metapuzzle" is an important word here. There's more metapuzzle in this game than non-meta puzzle, I'm pretty sure.

I won't say that you won't still sometimes get annoyed by a draft--I do wish that rerolls were just little bit more available than they are--but... it's core to the game. There's a reason that it's there, even when it's frustrating. And that's not to say that you're wrong if you dislike it! That's a valid view! Blue Prince is not for everybody! It is a game for Puzzle Degenerates specifically! Those guys who have been scraping puzzle resin off of the depths of Steam have just been given a solid brick of pure uncut Metapuzzle. That's why you see some people reviewing it so highly--they've been waiting for this for ages, even if they haven't known that.


Blue Prince is an absolute paragon of its underserved niche. But it is niche, and... kind of got mislabeled a bit, honestly. Not that I begrudge it any success--it absolutely deserves success. But it's important to know what you're getting into when you start, I think, and I hope this review can help with that. (Also, sincerely--I do think it's better with friends so you're bouncing ideas off of someone else).

One of the most impressive puzzle games I've played since Void Stranger. It requires a certain level of patience that I don't think many are really prepared to have, and, unlike most other puzzle games, it requires you to be able to throw your hands up, let out a big ol' sigh, and say "ggs go next". Sometimes you're just gonna get unlucky.

I've written about my favorite puzzle games before more than once and I tend to accidentally always give the same preface. I'm a big fan of games with meta puzzles and millions of secrets hiding in plain sight, and frankly, I like it when games are mean to me. I like being challenged, regardless of if it's an action platformer or an ARPG or an FPS game, but I especially love when puzzle games are vicious. There's something far more intriguing and rewarding when a puzzle game is really evil, moreso than other genres. These belligerent puzzle games keep you aloft with making you Feel Stupid, giving you some breadcrumbs, making you Feel Like A Genius, and then returning to 1, repeating the process indefinitely. Since I mentioned Void Stranger, for example, that's a game that specifically hates you, and wants you to stop playing it, to give up before you've seen it all. It's up to the player to find the will inside them to keep going, but if you manage to keep going long enough, Void Stranger eventually throws you a bone, gives you a hint, and lets you feel all big and smart again. I love this feeling, and find that for me, when a game is evil like that, it motivates me to keep going. And to some extent, nothing beats outsmarting these games, figuring out some big puzzle all by yourself (probably with plenty of hints lying around), and then getting to the Big Room of Obvious Hints that screams "HEY IF YOU MISSED HOW TO DO THIS HERE YOU GO".

Anyway, all I can really say is, Blue Prince is vicious and unfair, and that to me seems to be a lot of the point. But I don't think this game hates you in the same way as some other puzzle games might. For just about every puzzle I've seen (which might be about 50% so far I think, hard to tell, as I'm remaining spoiler free), the information and answer to each one has been extremely clear. Very few riddles near on undecipherable, and most answers are outright told to you, but Blue Prince changes up the usual puzzle style and, with it's seemingly random room layouts, makes finding the right information for the right puzzles the challenge instead. Blue Prince is a war of attention span, prioritization, diligent note-taking, and understanding that some days in Blue Prince, it just wasn't meant to be. It takes some getting used to, and a lot of patience, to enter a new room, get told pretty blatantly what you need to do next by a note or a book, and then have to wade through a sea of the Wrong Rooms and the Wrong Items afterwards for days, hopeless to ever see the specific combination of Rooms and Items you finally know you need again.

This is a major breaking point for several people, as you can clearly see from several of the Discussion posts, and even more of the Negative Reviews, but personally, I'm kinda used to my puzzle games having some insane ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in them. From the classic Fez antimatter cubes, to basically everything in Void Stranger, to Animal Well's postgame community ARG extravaganza. I actually quite enjoy this side of Blue Prince, and I think many people are missing a key ingredient of the game: RNG Mitigation and Goal Prioritization make up a huge swath of this game for me. Entering a day, and thinking "Okay, lets try for X", and having X fail, that's not the end of the day, despite how some people seem to be acting in these discussion posts I see. If X fails, move to Y, if Y fails, move to Z, if you're about to finally solve Z and the game throws you 3 dead ends with no chance of continuing, ggs, go next. Run it back.

A lot of my favorite moments of playing Blue Prince so far have been getting deep into a run, with several ingredients ready to complete several different puzzles, but with none of the rooms, and sitting on my Map Screen for 5-15 minutes trying to optimize pathing, gems, keys, everything, in hopes of squeezing out every possible chance for each solution I have. When you do seemingly overcome the odds the game continuously beats into you, it's such a good feeling. Partly "Thank God It's Over Holy Hell", partly "Yea That's Right I'm A Genius, Man". No puzzle game that's easy will ever leave you feeling either of those, and with this game I've felt both simultaneously multiple times.

I think a lot of people may get frustrated during one of a few different Interim periods of the game, where your knowledge pool is pretty large, but you're still missing a lot of key pieces that make doing the things you need to do a lot easier. All I can really say to that extent is that there are several ways to permanently mitigate some of the more prevalent RNG issues people talk about, but you might find that Mitigating that RNG becomes just another Goal added to your list of Things You Gotta Do.

The best way to approach Blue Prince, in my opinion, is absolutely treasure and cherish every single piece of progress you make. No matter how small, if you focus on those moments and go "yea that was good progress today", it'll certainly help. Some days all you do is read a new letter, or finally coat check that one item you needed. Setting yourself up for the future, either with information or items, is always beneficial and good ass progress man. This, of course, goes out the window the second you start trying to Day One attempts, which I only just yesterday finally achieved after probably 10 hours total of resetting runs. You're completely valid and allowed to complain about RNG for the Day One trophy. The rest of it, cherish.

There are places where critique is fair, specifically the length of animations after you've seen them once, a couple of cutscenes are unskippable regardless of how many times you've seen them (which is strange considering there are a few cutscenes that you can skip even on the first run), and maybe some other little pieces that I won't talk about here as they're post-game spoilers mostly. Even for games that want you to take them slow, or "Don't Respect Your Time" as some people might say, the animations and cutscenes being unskippable seems a bit much at times.

Like I said near the beginning, I think I'm probably about 50% done with the game, but I could be wrong. Things in the post-game take a lot longer to get moving for obvious reasons, but regardless, I haven't been so enthralled with a game in years. Even if I have 50% left, I don't think my opinions will be changing anytime soon; I have dreams about this game, I think about this game all day until I can finally play it. It's probably one of the best games ever created, but a funny symptom of being one of the Best Puzzle Games ever made is that you're going to filter about 90% of the people who try it. But man, is it worth that sacrifice if it means making an evil ass puzzle game for little freaks like me.

This is a roguelike/puzzle/mystery game. I was hesitant to buy this game so early at full price when the Steam reviews were somewhat middling (was about 78% the first day). I chose to purchase it based on the professional reviews being higher considering they had the game for a longer period of time. I've played about 45 hours now, in which I have seen an ending but not the end of the game. I'm playing with my partner, with one of us playing and the other taking notes. It's been great being able to bounce ideas off each other, but also caused a lot of fights about note taking being too slow.

Some things I like: This game has a LOT of content. There is some padding due to the RNG nature of the roguelike genre, but so far there have been enough leads on new things that we have rarely had a run where we accomplish nothing. There are permanent upgrades as you get further, and many things can be manipulated. For the most part, the puzzles so far are doable. There's a couple puzzles we found but haven't cracked yet, but I figure we'll find more clues at some point. There is also a pretty engaging story and you get in bits and pieces. I like that it rewards note taking, and I have taken over 20 front and back pages of notes so far.

Some things I dislike: Some of our runs can be over an hour, and there is no option to save and quit in the middle of a run. We have ended up playing past midnight several times and the ability to just save and turn the game off without throwing away a great run would be nice. I am not sure what value the steps currency really adds to the game. You only get a set amount of rooms to enter each day. This can be increased quite a lot as you get further by food and other combinations, but it can be very frustrating in a bad way when you have all the keys to the kingdom (figuratively) in a run and not be able to act on everything due to a low amount of steps left. I also know I put the large amount of content as a positive, but we are beginning to feel fatigued at 46 hours in when we aren't even sure we know what ending we are working towards now. There are also some permanent changes you can make that can be negative. I suppose you can always start a new save file, since much of the progression is your own knowledge, but it still rubs me the wrong way. There has been at least once section so far that has a timer to do a specific task, and I'm not sure if you fail if you would get a second chance on the same save file. There is also at least one puzzle that is very abstract.

Some neutral observations: There are several achievements that will require making new save files. I have heard there is some method to port those achievements to your "main" file. There are also some achievements that lean into the roguelike playstyle, requiring you to build certain types of houses. There are several puzzles you will end up doing many times - they get harder as you play more, but it can feel a bit repetitive.

Overall I'm having a lot of fun with the game, but am worried I'm getting a little burned out and will not see through to the true ending anytime soon. It's definitely worth the full price. Pick it up if you love puzzle or mystery games. If you don't enjoy those genres, I don't think the roguelike elements will be enough to keep your interest.

Normally talking about "what a game is like" makes it look derivative, but this is a game about inheritance and also i don't care, so let's go.

Like The Witness, this is the work of a independently well-off developer, which spent a ridiculous amount of time and resources to ensure the work was something everyone involved could be unqualifyingly proud of.

Like Inscryption, this is a game that claims to be a straightforward board game, but uses its board game component as a platform to hide secrets for a much more farther reaching structure.

Like Animal Well, the structure of secrets is much larger, and more convoluted and obtuse, than anything you could sensibly expect given how many people will actually play through it.

Like Balatro, it's not afraid of wasting your time by being poorly balanced. It trusts you'll go back and get a better spread next time. It's probably right, but the level to which it relies on that assumption is close to abusive, especially at the start of the game (you'll have much bigger concerns by the end)

So, should you play this game? Probably if you liked the first three games. Not Balatro. It's actually not a lot like Balatro.

Sometimes, you brick your floorplan almost instantly by drafting poorly. Other times, you fill the house by drafting 20 Aquariums. No two runs are ever really the same.

I'm 40 hours in, ~41 days in, and despite the credits roll I'm still actively engaging with the game. There's traces of puzzles I have yet to even start on, and I've still not drafted a few of the rooms. Did finally manage to fill every square, at least, with a fish-centric logical loop.

If "fish-centric logical loop" is a phrase that fills you with joy and wonder, give this game a try. You don't need to be Nancy Drew to enjoy - and you'll know if you want to keep going well before the refund window closes.

Extremely well-made and, to my knowledge, seems to be a new genre of puzzle/rogue-like game. Love this game!
