What happens if you can't use an upgrade disk?

I found four upgrade disks this run, but never a terminal to use them on... if I go to the next day I'm not going to permanently miss out on these am I? Will they re-spawn?

They respawn, you won't miss out. You just have to find it again.

They're random like all other items AFAIK. There might be a few that are pre-seeded (in the sense that "the first time you see this room, it will have one") but I think they're just random.

Are you sure? I was pretty sure they were pretty explicitly *not* random and that the game was even tracking them individually.

It may be that case that some are set, and those respawn if you can't use them by the end of the run. I did just get one of the ones from my last run.

I found one in the exact same place in the great hall twice and used them both times so they aren't finite, just rare. Third time that room spawned three gems so I guess they're considered equivalent in value. Wish there was a more consistent way of getting them though

The upgrade discs only spawn in those locations until you use up their "pool" for that location. Once that happens, they will no longer spawn there, is my understanding.

In few infromation sources, like One of bookshop(?) books or stuff message board online you could learn about there being 16 disks total. They are for specific rooms AND they are in specific places (at least, on start).
You get each one for reaching rare room or finding secret place for first time. I'm not sure, but I believe, that they could change their position if not used, but each of disks is traced by game. If you missed one, game probably should grant you opportunity to find it again.
Maybe you could get them (again) via Lost and Found because of "get rare items" effect. Or in Great Hall as it was mentioned previously.
Stuff message board also recites when you get specific number of disks (it was 12 for me) and starts giving hints on locations of last ones time from time.

I meant stuff announcements board which is accesible in network from any terminal. Once connetion via sattelite is reestablished, new messages appear there day from day.

I've had Upgrade disks show up in shops. So I'm fairly certain they are effectively limitless.
