[SEVERE BUG, New Game can Overwrite Old Save File!]
DO NOT EXIT THE GAME WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO YOU.

Edit: Save File Recovery, as a long shot to restore your save:
Alt tab out, find your steam cloud save file location, steam cloud save is on by default.

Downloading your Steam Cloud Saves:
Help -> Steam Support -> My Account -> Date Related to my Account -> Steam Cloud

There find Blue Prince and get files. Hopefully steam hasn't updated the game files in the cloud with your overwritten save. which I think it does whenever you exit the game, so don't! I wasn't fast enough for this to work for me, I hope it does for you!

----------

So trying to get the win in one day achievement, I did the first day on a new savefile a few times. Carefully deleting ONLY the previous failed runs. Now after another run, the game saved the latest run, on top of my old 40 hour long save.

Now you might think, Lantantan, surely you might have accidentally deleted your main safe while deleting the failed runs, right? That's what I thought, but it just happened AGAIN. I'm not entirely sure what caused this to happen. My save game is in slot two, I start a new game in slot one. new game gets saved in slot two. Maybe this is because of unlocking dare move or something? A non dare game gets saved in the first non-dare slot?

Until we release a patch please ONLY create a new save file by selecting "New Game" from the Profiles menu.

If you somehow find yourself back in Main Start Menu (by pressing back or force quitting) DO NOT press "New Game" if it appears in the main menu where you normally see "Continue" as this will override your default save file.

Thank you for helping bring this issue to our attention.

Maybe its because I started a new game from the profile page? I'm trying to reproduce it consistently.

Hi there Lantantan, I am sorry you are having an issue. The best thing to do would be to contact our support desk: https://rawfury.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/1 so that a member of the team can look into this for you. 🙂

Can't quite pin it down, but one of the new games just decided to save itself on top of my old save. Best make a copy of your save on your desktop or something, steam cloud updated too quickly to roll it back.

This happened to me as well the new game button seems to be bugged. I believe it happened because there was no "active" profile cause i deleted the profile to start a new game so it instead overwrites the first profile instead of just starting a new profile. Lost my 50 day save after trying dare mode and losing it than deleted the dare save file and than pressing new game overwrote my old save.

There's been at least 3 others now who have experienced their 50 day save wiped.

I think this poster got closest to the cause, it hasn't happened to me since I started avoiding the New Game button,
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

This happened to me as well, I ended up managing to restore most of my progress by editing the save file. I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you're very far in, though, as obviously there are spoilers in the save file. I was on day 36 when I lost my save and still ran into a couple mild spoilers while fixing the save, but I did manage to restore about 80% of my progress.

If you're reading this and it hasn't happened to you, back up your save!

Oh how are you editing it? I really don't look forward to having to do the trivial 40 basic logic and math puzzles, I was just about to get those achievements too. And I'd like my 50 stars back.
Hey I also just had this issue and worried it was steam cloud jank, I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ miserable that I lost like 20 hours of work on my main save (and like 30 gold of allowance) but at least I'm glad to know that it's not just a me issue and that it's happened to other people, and that they're working on fixing it. At least I had a half-backup that I made on day 20 messing around in the grotto.
I'd also like to know how to manual edit my file so that I could at least get some of that meta-progression back

I lost my save file to this as well on Xbox Game Pass for PC. 25ish hours of progression flushed because I wanted to try out a challenge run, ♥♥♥♥ me. Glad they're working on it

Here are the steps. Keep in mind that the devs could update the game to remove this method or just delete my post at any point. Also, the save file has everything you can unlock, so there are LOTS of spoilers!

0: If you have a current save, make a backup in case anything goes wrong.
1: Upload your save to https://es3.tusinean.ro/, under the Decryption heading.
2: For the encryption password, use the following:

D#vnrl%TI_9q0euFPIx+wKRuNx%Aja2-AtuH1jtMSk2k%H1jXjUPor08QaeQE=p5l=LAIWaSYms-68SYVS0PPoWxgM1B8?8tirM+UGr=cp!5a3=B5tBsKYEUfqxN!H9DvRVkLW?6cMeZWxgov%OOXmfl9zRiqWPsXq95lEc4yax7hqf5m_i5ssn-OGgLA8LJu2ETibBi7DwLc-zQ4M9jRGIdV_izS_J_=3FA=rAo0HUiEr-HWYVnuK$OQUyaVMchXxf%EBo3A7Z-PXYm$6PPG%fJfWzV7M$L5he#y5cb?kVR67IfGzG$UzBcLhNMDhQFwQSEX59ZG7hP32q?6PgirmvGTd-45+7ZKyG$FrDHoNw7ceUhrxYdzYSHd0yRz0T_RR_R5$GZda%DDfCUPHIaVlIhMq4FEOzo?GL7wyXr9XD7SD_QGpjZh&NDwycjnBeOy2mmFazlOV5eR7jsiwYDde9jCOH&cOxeTody=iUEt|l7JCQ8IyX|0g3H&NO6DMveVqC9|OPkOZpO3DpM|||3LJ7PX40rZJXmLILu0UXU9hpM5

Yes, that whole thing.
3: Download the decrypted save file. You can now edit the file in notepad or any text editor.
4: Go through and change options from FALSE to TRUE for your trophies, permanent progression, etc. There are a few where you can set a value as well, like for allowance or the number of times you've beaten the parlor/billiard puzzles.
5: Once you're done, upload it to the website again in the encryption section, and then download the encrypted save.
6: Change the name to match the original save game name and put it back in the save folder.

Hi Helen,
Any off-chance the game stores backup saves or logs anywhere? Pretty gutted to have lost my data and hoping there might be a recovery method of some kind. I know it’s a long shot, but I gotta ask.
Thanks!

Any ways to get my save file back? Are there any backups? It's soooo frustrating to find all my progress lost
You can manually download your save from the steam cloud, if you're quick enough. I sadly wasn't quick enough. I'll state the steps and also edit my post to help other's recovery.

Downloading your Steam Cloud Saves:
Help -> Steam Support -> My Account -> Date Related to my Account -> Steam Cloud

Then find Blue Prince and get files. Hopefully steam hasn't updated the game files in the cloud with your overwritten save. which I think it does whenever you exit the game, so don't!
Out of curiosity, how did you get that key?

A warning to anyone who followed the guide I posted above: the way the game spawns sanctum keys may break if you do this. I had some early ones that I had already found spawn again, as I expected, but later keys that I had not yet found failed to spawn.
I suspect the game has a failsafe that prevents more than eight keys + open doors from existing, so if you edit any of your sanctum doors to be open, it will stop that many keys from spawning. I had opened two doors before losing my save, so I set them as open, but that appears to have also caused the last two sanctum key locations I found (6 and 8 in my case) to not spawn the key.
