magnifying glass bug

i'l preface this by saying my laptop doesn't run the game perfectly (it lags haha), but well enough to enjoy the game.

I've discovered some awkward behaviour with the magnifying glass where it works as intended on the first few uses, but then persistently exits documents instead of picking up the glass later. I don't know if a specific document is causing the issue (both times I think it's been trying to look at the entrance hall letter) or just a result of my hardware, but I know it's going to block me later e.g. the darkroom photo for the orchard padlock, which i discovered in the demo

The image of the Secret Garden key, in the book Drafting Strategies Vol IV, page 11, also likes to fly all over the place and not stay on the page properly when you use the magnifying glass on it.

I have settled on this being just a hardware issue. It's the functionality to left-click out of documents that seems to beat 'left-click and hold' to drag. But I have a friend who's helping by screenshotting for me where the magnifying glass fails.

I occasionally have that problem. It seems to happen if you try grabbing the magnifying glass while the game is lagging. You can reduce the odds of that happening by waiting for the magnifying glass to completely stop moving before you try grabbing it.

this is too ridiculous, it doesn work 90% of the time for me and it's really getting annoying and stopping my progress, is there no way around this?

Through practise I have found I can beat this issue with good reliability:

If the glass overlaps the document, grab it from that overlap. The click will hit the document (maybe turning back a page) and then drag functionality will take over.

If there is no overlap, you can grab the glass as it moves into frame with a quick snatching motion. Might still exit document, but works within a few tries which is better than being unable to use it.
