Please spoil me
I'm done with this game. I haven't finished it, but I am definitely done with it. That said, I would like some info on how something works so I can stop trying to figure it out and free up some hard drive space. Spoil me, please.

I would like to know what is up with the wall art, the pairs of drawings in many rooms. Thanks to the cousin of the fortune teller from Big, I understand about the missing letters (i.e. chart vs. cart), and I have a whole page of a notebook filled out with that stuff. But what the hell do I DO with this information? Is it a puzzle? If so, how does one interact with it?

Or maybe I am 100% barking up a wrong tree to begin with.

I'm waiting for youtubers to supercut their 100+ hours run so I can see what the game is all about

Yes it is a puzzle, one of the more obtuse ones (which appears to only get worse for later puzzles). Solving it gives you the understanding for how to figure out what the safe codes are.

Here's a guide for it. It gives four hints as well as providing the solution outright in a spoilered section, in case you still might want to try figuring it out for yourself.

They have guides for what seems like every puzzle in the whole game already. I don't know how they managed to get it out so quickly, aside from potentially the people who spent a lot of time with the demo by abusing the 4 day limit and discovering well beyond what was originally intended as it actually contained a lot (but not all) of the final game.

I've already given up and spoiled myself out of frustration, and I'm convinced there is no way that I would have been able to have figured everything out myself organically without having a miserable time of it.

Build the Study, you should get it from there.

At first I thought you were talking about the Library, which I have only ever seen once. But after googling it, no, the Study is a completely different room that I have never seen. After 11 hours in the f-ing game.

I haven't seen the library or the study and the game has already become a repetitive slog.

Certain rooms only spawn when certain conditions are met.
