Because of all these issues my frustration around room placement and dead ends drastically outweighed any "fun" I had with the puzzles and exploration.
I didn't pay enough attention, but I'm not sure if the other rooms even do rotate, I think they always have the same orientation. The only difference might be which way the door is facing, if it's not just the other side of the room.
The rotunda does that, at least if you draft from it. (As the original comment said) And there are other ways to get room rotation.
E.g. in the first half'ish part of the house it's important not to waste too many exits and to use up as many dead ends as possible.
