Language/word-related puzzles feels out of place
I love the logical puzzles and have gotten quite far in the game, I've solved the majority of sanctum rooms and I love exploring the map expanding on different combinations of rooms and testing theories.

But after so many hours into the game, I felt like it was strange that I had found none of the safe combinations, except the time lock. I have one of the chess pieces, I had deciphred the 44 letter message in the map and I'm close to acing the exam and felt like this should've been solved earlier, considering how early we run into this mechanic. Then I found a clue saying none of the dates would be written down which led me to my first google session for the game and I realized the solution was related to puns/rebuses/language. For me who isn't a native english speaker, this was a big disappointment and a frustrating mechanic.

If I had one wish for the game, it would be that there were more clues/alternate ways of figuring out the language puzzles when you don't have that advanced grasp of the language.

Freezer tells you this.
Happens to me exactly as OP describes. Also my first google session, because for me - with the deciphred message, i somehow expected, that this is all the game would give me. So Thanks for the freezer hint... though i wish the game would give another hint, that there is more to the message, once deciphred. I'll check out the freezer, but if there is nothing more i think i have to google again, because i'm completely stuck at the study.

Specifically the freezer cooler has a letter inside it. Melt the ice and read it.

I think three of the codes you want are hinted as wordplay by the freezer letter but only one of those is really a pun that might push you if you're not a native speaker and with that one the pun is literally spelled out in one of the books. The other two are just reinterpreting the clue not punning.

The other safe codes are just to look around for things that could be dates but quite specifically aren't dates written down. Worth also noting that it doesn't much matter how you write dates, the game will accept multiple combinations in most cases just so long as they represent the solution.

But I'm sorry to have to tell you, you may have a harder time in the Gallery. That has more difficult wordplay.

Oh god the Gallery. How it haunts me.
