General mechanical question, non-spoiler (I think)
Does the cursor always change when hovering over something interact-able? Or are there hidden spots to click on that exist? I just don't want to waste my time clicking on things I think might be something if that's just not how it works

Don't bother with randomly clicking on everything. As far as I can tell, nothing in this game is meant to be solved that way. Slightly deeper explanation (not really a spoiler but spoilered just in case): Anything that isn't obviously interactable is generally set up in such a way that you won't be able to solve it without knowing what you're supposed to be doing.

I think there is only 1 puzzle you can discover this way. Even then you'll still need to figure out the answer to it. But yes intractable objects will have your cursor change. Some objects won't be intractable until you have the correct item.

Only time i ever randomly clicked on stuff was when i entered a room that said +2 items and i haven't been playing enough to know *what* the items are. Especially since things like the coupon book, lock pick or lucky rabbits foot are kind of small and sometimes placed in a corner.
I can think of two occasions where there's a spot you can click on but the cursor doesn't change, there may be more, but it's certainly very rare. You could spend hours clicking without finding one. It's not a bad thing to try if you have a specific clue that suggests a thing could be changed or should be touched, but I wouldn't try just clicking on every interesting thing in every room. It'll take ages and be pretty unrewarding.

That's what I was thinking too.

I was thinking of that one but also I thought that The candlestick in the room with the painting showing it needs to be pressed didn't have an icon on mouse over until you'd done it the first time.

I'm pretty sure that one does have an icon the first time as well.

The bottom line is practically everything (with maybe one tiny exception) that you can interact with will show an icon when you hover over it IF you have the appropriate item you need to use it. So be a little careful, just because you don't see an icon doesn't mean you can't do something at the spot you're pointing toward, it may just mean you don't currently have an item you need.

As I'm in the middle of doing day 1 runs I'm confident that one shows icons from the start.
A'ight, I misremembered then.
