About the key you receive in the Antechamber, we can say the following:
- As with all items, it will not stay in your inventory when you call it a day
- As with all items, you can check it into the Coat Check and fetch it from there later (which is a perfectly valid option to continue your search for Room 46 the other day)
- Once you actually used the key, the door that you opened with it will permanently stay open, even it might not look so
- Your idea about where you could apply the key is definitely worth a try
- There are methods to reach Room 46 without using the Antechamber key, but they are more difficult in the early game and require more luck
- If you want to try a method that does require the Antechamber key, you still have quite some things left to do once you collected the key
Edit: apparently I'm incorrect. They got to the antechamber in a very unusual way and are wondering about the basement key
That is definitely irregular, congrats.
So wait. How did you guys unlock the north antechamber door? Did you even use the basement? if so how did you get in?
It would just be interesting to understand which path you took, as it is quite an unusual one in my experience.
A secret passage doesnt really narrow it down. I can think of 3 ways that fit that description.
But none of them should work on their own, unless you also used the pump room at some point.
Did you at any point have to move carts with boxes so you could climb over them?
(Tidus voice) Listen to my story.
I had the tomb unlocked and solved the puzzle down there (from the stained glass windows in the chapel). That opened a passageway that led to the reservoir. I took note of the fact that there was a boat that was JUST slightly submerged in water. I tried draining the whole reservoir and that didn't help, so instead I filled it up just a notch below full, and lo and behold, that let me ride the boat across. On the other side I explored a bit and found the room with the north lever.
As a cool added thing, I went to the reservoir right at the start of my next run, and that put me 10 steps behind schedule and I thought "oh what the heck, I might as well try doing a normal run now instead of ending the day." So I embarked on a run, and lo and behold, that's the one where the stars finally aligned for me and I was able to get the secret garden, unlock the antechamber, and go in for the first time. Goosebumps! Got that cool pedestal with the key on it and thought "oh cool, I guess this is something I'll need?" and just proceeded right into Room 46. Not realizing the key was actually supposed to be used for something else. At that point I was pretty low on steps anyways.
So yes, haven't been to the basement yet, unless the area beneath the tomb counts as the basement. I know of two entrances (bottom of the fountain and bottom of the foundation), but have never used the key to unlock them.
That's what I figured you did :D
