New game deleted save file?

I was playing all just fine until now, went to save and quit and was back on the main page. I remembered I had unlocked the dare mode but didn't know how to try it so I hit 'new game' and saw the description of the dare mode and I believe I hit the 'regular' game option, but when I went back there was no 'continue' button.
Did I honestly delete my save file from just that? No alerts or messages telling me I'm ruining my save.
Please tell me there's a way to fix it.

From the main menu, you can check either profiles or settings > save data and your normal save should still be there. If it isn't then something went wrong because the only way you should be able to delete a save is by hitting "clear save" next to the save profile.

My goodness, almost had an heart attack! Phew, I got so scared didn't even see the 'profile' option. Now I just feel so silly..
