Pantry Experiment
So, one of the possible experiment effects is "stock the pantry with fruit", which is simple enough.

However, given the note that's present in the pantry and specifically asking for 5 of each fruit and to leave the change and have 50 steps, it makes me wonder if this is secretly a puzzle.

I've been trying to get things to line up so that I can be in the pantry on 50 steps with five of each fruit on the counter as well as the four coins. My question is, will this actually do anything? Like, does something happen if I meet those conditions or is the pantry's fruit and coins, along with the ability to add more through the experiment, just a way to get more resources?

TL;DR: Should I keep trying to get this to line up (despite always getting too many bananas) or is the note literally just saying that those fifteen fruits give a total of 50 steps combined?

I think it's just saying those total fruits' effects add up to 50 steps. So you could figure out how much whichever last fruit you come across gives before using it.

I belive that it is the ingame reason Simon starts with 50 steps every day prior to unlocking the apple orchard. Mrs Babbage (or Bridgette) delivers the fruits to the tents (as they don't appear at the pantry) and Simon muches down on them every morning to have enough strenght for another day of "cryptic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥".
I have no idea if this is a puzzle or not.

At least that is my headcannon.

Well, I think I've exhausted everything else in the game at the moment, so I'll probably keep trying and report back on if anything happens when you achieve it.

I like that image! But poor Simon - that's a lot of fibre to ingest before spending all day roaming the Estate with only a single Lavatory that isn't always drafted!

I had assumed the note was telling us that in the item pool each day there are 15 pieces of fruit: 5 each of apples, bananas, and oranges. So I thought that's the most you can expect to find in the house, but not counting the fruit you can buy at the Commissary or the Kitchen.

That should be easily debuinkable. If you draft 9 classrooms thats 9 apples. A budoir with the 3 apple upgrade is another 3 makeing it 12, and secret garden with a conference room to catch the spread usually gives around 4-5 on its own. so thats more than 15 pieces of fruit just in apples, outside of using the shops.

Well, I finally did it. Got 5 of each fruit on the counter in the pantry, plus the change, and had exactly 50 steps (having to waste 90ish to get there), and literally nothing happened. Oh well. At least we know now!

Thank you for your sacrifice.

The clue on that note lets you determine how many steps each fruit is worth. That question will be on the test. :D

otherwise you can determine it by eating them. :)
