I bought the runnning shoes at the commissary (there are 4 pairs displayed on the shelf)
I exchanged the shoes for an other item at the trading post.
When I came back to the commissary, I couldn't buy any of the other shoes although there 3 other pairs clearly visible on the shelf
I take that to mean you could trade an item for them back.
I'm happy enough with the single item instance mechanic... although I just now managed to get two Royal Sceptres in my hands at once. I don't think that's intended! :D
I want to buy it a second time from the commissary (because I can see many of them on the shelves, but I can only buy it once)
I have also had the shovel become unavailable in the shop after it spawned in the mansion sometime after the commissary, even without picking up the shovel (because i didnt notice it)
You can't do that.
You can only have 1 of something in the game if it is not a consumable.
This is what I was going to say. It sounds like OP missed the shoes in another room. This is why we check security terminal, it will tell you if you've missed things but not where.
Yeah, the fact that Dowsing Rod locks you out of the Shovel is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane gameplay decisions. Like, seriously, why why why why why?
Because this game requires you to pivot on the spot
