Otherwise shops don't spawn anything (except what they sell)
Hallways don't generally have anything (tunnel can, Great Hall always does)
Blue rooms only have like a 10% chance of spawning anything (other than guaranteed items), but Den seems to spawn a trunk more often.
Lavatory has nothing (apparently with shield/sheltered it can).
Bedrooms/Greenrooms have a decent chance of items.
+Luck makes more stuff spawn.
If a room would spawn a special item you already have, it is replaced with another item or a resource (gem or key or 1-4 coins).
The items spawn in certain places, usually near the same spot, but not always.
Like Billiards room if it has a random item (1 coin, car keys, fruit) it spawns on the bar, but if it has a broken lever it spawns on the barrel in the corner instead.
Parlor: small chance of magnifying glass or coin purse or car keys or apple.
Dining Room: small chance of gem or coupon book or salt shaker (or key? or coins?)
Bunkroom: always has 2x banana or 2x gem or 2x 2 coins or 2x key
Nursery: almost always has an item (gem or key or 2 ivory dice or lucky rabbit's foot or coins or banana)
Guest bedroom: often has gem or key or keycard or magnifying glass or compass (or maybe car keys or something else, can't remember what else I found there)
NOTE: if you upgrade to Geist Bedroom it never ever has random items
Darkroom: keycard or lockpick or key or gem or battery.
(can't pick it up if the room is dark though)
Spare Room: nothing, if upgraded it can have an item appropriate to the room type.
(gem or broken lever, etc. if Spare Green room; Athletic Shoes or lucky rabbit's foot, etc. if Spare Bedroom...)
...I can't list all 100 rooms here (and I don't remember 100% of what they can spawn), but hopefully that helps.
I've found items in the Lavatory. I assumed it has the same item drop rate of "seldom" as the other red rooms? Or maybe it was Sheltered at the time and I didn't make the connection that was why there was an item.
Also the broken lever spawns there often.
When it comes to the inventory items, my hunch is that there are item spawn rates for different room categories (not necessarily the same as their tags). The categories might be something like:
* Bedrooms
* Green rooms
* Red rooms
* Rooms that are set to to give a number of items such as the Closet, Walk-In Closet, Attic etc.
* Clara Epsen's rooms
* Desks/reading places like Archives, Classroom, Library, Nook, Office, Study etc.
* Workshop
* Toolshed
So Item A might have the highest drop rate in Green rooms and the Toolshed.
Whereas Item B might have the highest drop rate in Desks/reading places.
And Item C might have the highest drop rate in Red rooms and the Toolshed.
But you may be able to find all three items somewhere like the Attic.
In general, the items spawned seem to make common sense. You wouldn't expect to see a Shovel in a bedroom or a Sleeping Mask in a green room.
Oh and this is absolutely true. I've never gotten items other than gems, keys, and coins in bedrooms (with some exceptions, such as a magnifying glass in Her Ladyship's Spare, or the Sleeping Mask for obvious reasons). Its one of the reasons I always draft the Nursery when I can. Even if I have only 1 gem I'm highly likely to get that one gem back (Nursery's item spawn rate is basically 100% and probably 75-25 in favor of a gem).
Shovel rarely turns up in non-green rooms (I've found it in the closet once or twice). Not sure I've seen the Hammer or Metal Detector in other places either.
Walk in Closet has a very restrictive list, and it's heavily weighted towards 1-2 gems, 1-2 keys, and 1 food item. Only other items I can recall seeing here are the running shoes, lockpicks, keycard, coin purse, and lucky rabbit's foot.
As far as I can tell: telescope only spawns in Her Ladyship's Chamber, Walk-in closet, and (very very rarely) observatory. (and Lost and Found)
Workshop always has 1 item that can be combined with other stuff (except lucky rabbit's foot?), if you already have all these items I think it is replaced with basic resources instead.
If you have sledgehammer/metal detector/shovel already then Workshop is a good place to get broken lever or battery.
As a note, trunks have a short list of possible contents:
3 gems (extremely rarely 4)
2-3 keys
gem + key + 1-4 coins
2 ivory dice + 4 coins
(2-?)3x 3-4 coins
lockpick
garden key
gem + silver key (maybe also gem + car keys)
compass + treasure map
also lucky rabbit's foot apparently
special items from them are rare, usually resources.
Trunks take an item spawn (and are more likely if you already have all the special items the room could spawn).
If you have shovel+sledgehammer+metal detector they are relatively common in green rooms, especially with Veranda (or other +luck).
And the spare room if you upgrade it a certain way (which makes sense given that it also spawns in Her Ladyship's Chamber).
Right. I sorta lumped the special keys in with "keys." Cupcake I considered "food" and the salt is "food adjacent." I forgot about the coupon book and I don't think I've seen the telescope there myself.
I swear I've seen it somewhere else too. But I don't think I was giving it that much attention. Might've been the attic.
I'm not sure about that part. I have taken to habit of counting the items in the Walk in and Attic to make sure I get them all. I got 8 and a trunk one time I was up there. Unless "two keys" took up a single slot, but I doubt it.
You can find Telescope in Lost and Found too.
Attic can have a lot of items: broken lever, sledgehammer, shovel, battery, metaldetector, lockpick, treasure map, running shoes, coupon book, keycard, purse. major keys.
I think i've seen lucky rabbits foot there, but im not sure.
I am absolutely sure have seen lucky rabbits foot in classrooms a few times. I think year 2 or 3 on the student seattables or whatever you want to call them.
I think the Attic can have any item.
