Not spoilers, but just let it happen when it happens. I didn't get this until day 50+, and I was not short of other things to progress in that time. Personally, I wouldn't ever try and focus on one thing. This game has hundreds of threads to pull. Pull whichever one you are presented with that day.
But again: i'm pretty sure this is just my feeling though. The game is still fun but i don't think the puzzle genre mixes well with the roguelike aspect.
And I still feel like I'm pulling a dozen threads.
I've never gone into a day trying to 'force' an outcome though. Just started drafting, and kept my eyes open for any of the dozens of things I'm currently curious about.
New rooms, new items (or combinations of items), new books (or other purchases), a whole bunch of different things that might connect to a boiler room, more stars, new areas outside .... there's just so much!
I'd be happy to point you towards a dozen different threads to pull, but I don't know where you are in the game yet. If you've got to room 46 though, then there should be at least 8 more threads to pull, each of which opens up another rabbit hole .
I see so many threads here where someone is trying to force [x] and failing, and having a miserable time. And it's funny, because they are all for completely different values of [x], that are being missed/ignored by all the people trying to force some different x.
Keep a notepad with a list of every time something catches your eye, and glance through it every 'day'!
As the days go on, you do get more and more ways to work around the RNG. There are always multiple ways to achieve your goals, or ways to mitigate the random factor.
I think you can even do that task without power as well, in the end. (Unless of course there's even *more* than I know about!?)
I am amused that I accomplished that task on the same day I first emptied the reservoir. Well, secondary benefits took another two days, but the important bit was "well I've got one key left..." and hit jackpot blind.
