For the love of God give warning about lock-outs!
First, this is a lovely game and I enjoy it immensely.

It is also an enormous time-sink to progress, so when there is actual permanent choices or hard limitations on the use of something there REALLY should be clear warning about it.

Specifically the limited uses of the axe makes me EXTREMELY frustrated since if this was made clear from the start I would have held of using it until I had a much clearer picture of the options.

Other permanent upgrades either don't include any choice (permanent additions) or makes it obvious if one is locking oneself out ( room upgrades ) or not ( studio additions ).

This case however REALLY make a permanent difference and there is NO indication of any limitation beyond RNG and resources.

Honestly this feel like a proper bum move and devs should consider implementing some mechanic to change one's mind in a patch. Yes really!

An obvious fix would be to keep the axe in the game after cutting the cost of three rooms, but if the player try to use it on a fourth room tell them to first use it on a already cut room to restore that rooms cost before they can cut another. And that they can do this a maximum of 3 (..2..1) times. That way the axe will function exactly as intended but WITH fair warning and without the need for a full restart.

That would remove this unnecessary and, I'm sure, unintended fly from the ointment.

Please? ;)
No because then it clogs up the spot that the torch is in.

Yes they absolutely need to let the player know that it has a limited use.

Also yes there needs to be more ways to undo decisions and things.

I think this is a perfectly reasonable thing to leave in. While some of the game is meant for a single play-through there is obviously content that isn't unlocked for that play-through so if you break your pig or use up your axes to early you can always try again to find things faster. one of the things i love is that you cant remember everything so if you set aside your old notes for a second play-through you can easily still enjoy the puzzles of relearning a lot of the things you only needed to learn for a moment. a warning might be helpful but only if it was in a memo or note because that way you can still miss it. All not knowing does is slow your game if you thought you knew something that you didn't.
Axes? Plural? There's another one?
