SPOILER: Removing ALL of water

I'm just curious: What happens if you remove all the water from the reservoir, pool, fountain etc. using the lab experiment. Is it just gone forever? What if you do it before collecting Sanctum Key from the Safehouse? Are you just stuck then?

I have found the sanctum key elsewhere, I got it by changing the 149 key for the 370 key for the vault and opening it. But I'm stupid and did not save it for next day

This is probably a big spoiler, but sanctum keys' locations are fixed. You simply found different one, than the one I'm talking about.

I'm curious if the game only drops the water a max number of times using the lab experiment, perhaps a number equivalent to the reserve tank. For example, the game will only add so many letters to the mail room using the experiment, and after that you seemingly can't draw the "add letter" experiment at all anymore
