Study and Drafting Studio Safes
So normally I would prefer to figure this out on my own, but I have both rooms right next to each other, and I don't know when the next time I'll have another go at either of these Safe combinations... My gut instinct tells me they have something to do with one another's rooms... I have done the code that the Study hints you towards in the paintings, and I feel like the first part of the code hints towards the calendar..... But I feel like I am at a total loss.

Can anyone give the smallest nudge in the right direction, or just let me know if there is more information that I am missing? I feel like I should have access to what I need here, but I cannot connect the dots.

Smallest hint, hardly a hint at all, after you solve the painting puzzle, all referenced safes are solvable in the room you find them in

Second, also small barely hint much much later, the study's safe gets a huge hint that basically solves it.

I'm sure others will give better actual hints than I will. I'm always afraid my hints are too obvious

What you need to solve these each of these safes are in the room with them. Sounds like you've done the paired paintings clue, so you know the format of the combinations you're looking for.

These are hints, just telling you what to look at in each room, and not solutions behind the spoilers.

For the Drafting Room look at the calendar on the wall and remember what the paired painting puzzle solution says

For the Study The clue is the chess board. That's all you need, and it's not as complicated at you might think. I definitely overthought it

It's so fascinating to me what certain players find easy and what others have more difficulty with. The moment I walked into the study I was like "oh, that's the safe combo, beep boop beep, unlock." It took my friend ages to solve that one. She on the other hand saw the paintings in the lobby and started solving that puzzle before the first hint of it showed up. I didn't clock it as a puzzle until I entered the study about 700 days later. I even thought about how you solve that puzzle when looking at the paintings several times! "Chief and chef, that's funny." "oh look, a bat and a bath, cute." and then I would do NOTHING with it, lolol.

Yeah, I saw a streamer walk into like the 2nd room and go - "Oh, car and cart" and get what that meant before a hint of anything else but then they struggled with what I considered the most basic things.

I havent watched it, but I've heard similar things about Northern Lion's playthrough and I kind of want to watch it because his clips are always hilarious.
Okay, so I am trying to come back to this the next day, and I still just do not see what I'm supposed to be looking for in the Study.

I see the chessboard, and I understand Queen on D8, and recognize D8 as DATE, also referencing the picture pairings, but I am really unsure how this fits into solving the safe puzzle. I assume I need a 4 digit code, but how you are supposed to interpret that from this, is unclear. I tried counting directions, but I got through two of the possible combinations of numbers before I felt like there are too many variables for this to be the correct solution.

On a note related to that last point, I want to ask about the safe in the Drawing Room. I found the safe, and I feel like the solution is a play on words, replacing GATES with GAITS, and you have to reference the picture of the old man with the umbrella on each wall... But That still leaves 16 possible number combinations to choose from, and similar to my issue here with the Study, this feels like I am missing information.

for the study you have everything you need. Don't overthink it

for the other one small gaits. interesting idea. without a later clue, you should be able to limit this to two possible combinations. Personally don't think trying one than the other is brute forcing when it's down to two. But how do you get it to two combinations?

I'm unsure of what you are referencing with 2. But the developers considered an international playerbase, so both DDMM and MMDD works on all safes. Incase that is what you were referencing.

You are unfortunately reading that clue wrong.

They are and they aren't

So, I have not even been thinking about this puzzle for the last couple hours, but it has suddenly struck me... It isn't seriously just... D8 for December 8th, is it?

only one way to find out
SO... Moving on from the Study, feeling a little bit dumber. Still haven't been able to figure out the Drawing Room. I realize that the combination will need to be formatted in a way it creates a valid date, so that will eliminate alot of possibilities, but I am not confident that my initial idea of where to find the numbers is 100% correct.

You have all the clues to get to two combinations. There is technically a memo later that narrows that down to one of those two, but I think you can get to two possibilities based on what youve solved.
I'm an idiot, the dates part of the clue limits it to only one possible combination when you fully realize what you need to look at in that room.
