Second, also small barely hint much much later, the study's safe gets a huge hint that basically solves it.
I'm sure others will give better actual hints than I will. I'm always afraid my hints are too obvious
These are hints, just telling you what to look at in each room, and not solutions behind the spoilers.
For the Drafting Room look at the calendar on the wall and remember what the paired painting puzzle solution says
For the Study The clue is the chess board. That's all you need, and it's not as complicated at you might think. I definitely overthought it
It's so fascinating to me what certain players find easy and what others have more difficulty with. The moment I walked into the study I was like "oh, that's the safe combo, beep boop beep, unlock." It took my friend ages to solve that one. She on the other hand saw the paintings in the lobby and started solving that puzzle before the first hint of it showed up. I didn't clock it as a puzzle until I entered the study about 700 days later. I even thought about how you solve that puzzle when looking at the paintings several times! "Chief and chef, that's funny." "oh look, a bat and a bath, cute." and then I would do NOTHING with it, lolol.
Yeah, I saw a streamer walk into like the 2nd room and go - "Oh, car and cart" and get what that meant before a hint of anything else but then they struggled with what I considered the most basic things.
I havent watched it, but I've heard similar things about Northern Lion's playthrough and I kind of want to watch it because his clips are always hilarious.
I see the chessboard, and I understand Queen on D8, and recognize D8 as DATE, also referencing the picture pairings, but I am really unsure how this fits into solving the safe puzzle. I assume I need a 4 digit code, but how you are supposed to interpret that from this, is unclear. I tried counting directions, but I got through two of the possible combinations of numbers before I felt like there are too many variables for this to be the correct solution.
On a note related to that last point, I want to ask about the safe in the Drawing Room. I found the safe, and I feel like the solution is a play on words, replacing GATES with GAITS, and you have to reference the picture of the old man with the umbrella on each wall... But That still leaves 16 possible number combinations to choose from, and similar to my issue here with the Study, this feels like I am missing information.
for the study you have everything you need. Don't overthink it
for the other one small gaits. interesting idea. without a later clue, you should be able to limit this to two possible combinations. Personally don't think trying one than the other is brute forcing when it's down to two. But how do you get it to two combinations?
They are and they aren't
only one way to find out
You have all the clues to get to two combinations. There is technically a memo later that narrows that down to one of those two, but I think you can get to two possibilities based on what youve solved.
