Morning star and trunks

Hello everyone!
I bought a morning star in the armory, and the description clearly says: "Can knock the lock off chests and trunks". But it does not open the trunks at the bottom of the reservoire, although when you bring the key, it writes "the trunk is locked", i think it means that it is a trunk. Is this a glitch or did I misunderstand something and the morning star should be used differently?

Can't use Sledgehammer variants on those Trunks as well. The trunks with notes inside of them need keys to open. It's not explained well "why" that's the case in-game, but it's understandable from a gameplay perspective. (They didn't want to make it way too easy to open all the trunks)

I knew about the hammers, but I really hoped for Morning Star. I already found everything I needed there, but it was interesting to look at all the notes. Thanks for the answer!

there is actually an explanation! i can't remember where, but it is stated that the sledgehammer can be used on containers that have padlocks.. the chests in the reservoir have locks flush with its body, so a hammer wouldn't do anything

By the way, this is also true of the similar-looking trunks in the Treasure Trove
