I spent 55 redraws trying to get a freezer next to a furnace

Either I had the worse RNG ever or there's something in place to keep a freezer from being put within one square of a furnace. I burned 50 stars and 5 dice to see if I could get the freezer to draft, but it wasn't meant to be.

I had a similar issue, found it much easier to just melt everything in there manually with the tool I used for lighting candles

Oh god that's going to make things so much easier. I too had OPs problem and I never even considered this..

and I was able to do it once, because the need for this was literally hinted at in a note in the laboratory, and I was disappointed, the freezer melted just as much as it was with the furnace in one run (that is, everything except the personal refrigerator)

Does it have to be next to it? I read somewhere that it just needed to be close in ranks, and would eventually melt stuff.

IIRC it needs to be within 4 ranks or something, but I figured there weren't any restrictions one where the Freezer could be placed. At the very least, I expected it to show in 55 redraws.

possibly bad RNG? I don't know the exact formula but I believe Freezer is ranked as rare though right?

I don't know, for me it took me ~8 gems to get freezer directly next to the furnace (I know it was max 8 cause I used the gem re-draft bonus to get it.) I later found out you can melt the ice manually...

I'm willing to bet it can't be drawn next to a furnace, because I pulled other rare rooms multiple times. In fact I think I pulled *every* room but the freezer.

You don't need to spawn them next to each other. I've had them extremely far apart. What happens is once you have the furnace you walk into the freezer and the temperature will slowly rise. I've also heard that a Sauna will work but I've never personally tried it.

A couple things to keep in mind:

Ice Wall : You can bash it in with a power hammer(not sure if lower works) or melt it with a tool.

Freezer chest : Melting the room won't melt the contents, you need to directly apply a tool with heat.

They don't need to be next to each other, not sure if there is a maximum range. I had my freezer rank 2 4th position and the furnace in rank 5 5th position. The freezer did thaw but it took a while.

I don't think you can draft them right next to one another. Also if you drafted it a previous day, it will not show up for 24 hours.

You do not need them next to one another to melt things.

this was the very first time I got disappointed by the game. Finally got freezer + furnace on day 130 only to see that it doesn't unfreeze the chest items. Instead I can use an item I've already had like 5 times already. The clues provided really make it seem like furnace was the intended option...
