The key isn't stuck in the lock of the door, you know. You can use it again...
The crypt is admittedly quite ass. I have seen both sides of door down there it and now I just have to reroll the game repeatedly until I spawn both the crypt, and something to light candles with? I thought there would have at least been a lever or something
I brought a candle lighter down there, I couldn't find anything to light even though I did think that the racks of red candles would be an option. No, the thing about that second room, once I figured it out (To be fair, It took me many visits) Made me smack my head like "Oh DUH"
Hint: Think about how you had to open the door to the hidden room. It's the key to opening the blocked entry. Though in fairness... I laughed at where it will lead me.
realistically prob doesn't matter. if they felt like they had enough by the time they reached R46 they're probably not going to enjoy the other 80% of the game
that being said i legitimately wonder if we're (or i guess people like the original poster) being destroyed by the insta-dopamine hit nature of everything else in life these days
It's called The Basement Key.
Have you tried taking it to the fekking basement door in the basement?
The first time I got it, I didn't even know the game have a basement or where to find one. Because neither foundation, nor pump room spawn for me yet.
I would imagine a certain musical tone that we all know and love.
And when you started the game, you didn't know how to get to the anti-chamber. You could have deduced there was a basement from the big finger in the bedroom pointing down. (I did. "What's down? Is that pointing to something? If there WAS something down, it would have be in a basement...)
My point is just that what you are calling dead-ends are clearly not. You're just frustrated that they aren't THE end. Like, for example, how could you suggest getting a KEY is a "dead end". The Key is clearly TO something. You're just not at the end of the puzzle yet.
I absolutely agree with your frustration. I quit the game after getting the diary key, figuring out where to access the Lady's Bedchamber and that you needed to approach from the north, loading up with dice, and then STILL not being able to produce it due to the RNG. I tried for hours.
No thanks. I just can't justify the waste of time.
Love the game though.
I was in the same boat, found the Basement Key but had no idea where the door it went to was. Spent a while trying it on every locked door in the estate before coming to the conclusion that it's like the Car Keys and goes to something specific somewhere. Assuming it went to a specific door I had not yet seen was enough of a push to have me more thoroughly investigate the Grounds and outer rooms, which ultimately led me to the Tomb entrance to the underground. Which in turn alerted me to the idea of needing some way to manipulate water levels, and while hunting for the Pump room I literally tripped over Foundation, which simply sounds more "Basement-y".
One thing leads to another which leads to another. Blue Prince, exactly like Outer Wilds and Myst, is a game about following breadcrumbs, being curious, and thinking critically about the problems in front of you. Outside of going for Day 1 clears or the post-game Dare and Curse modes, there really isn't that much RNG involved. And I'm saying that even though I got locked out of workshop plays for around 70 consecutive days, because every day I didn't Draft a workshop I was still able to learn things and make progress in other areas.
Ok so I'm currently trying to do this right now.
I've devised a strat I think might work to give me the best chance of success.
1. Get Blessing of the monk prior and call it a day in the tomb.
2. This makes the tomb always draftable in the outer room and we now have a consistent restart point.
3. Draft the tomb and grab the pair of ivory dice
4. Go grab the key
5. Look for the study
6. Get the emerald bracelet (from coat check if you have it, show room if you don't) (60)
7. Draft the attic and the trophy room with AXED costs.
8. Approach from the north on the west side and go south. You'll have to kind of set this up. Tomorrow hallways really help here.
This gives the best chance of success I feel. Also having have adjusted the rarity of Showroom, Attic, Trophy Room, Coat Check, and Study prior will also probably help but I haven't even done that myself.
I'm on Day 50.
Also a Jack hammer digs up ivory dice and tons of gems all the time. It is probably the second best combo item with the dowsing rod being the best.
I think you'll find this much more obtainable.
Study lets you use gems to reroll 8 times and emerald bracelet from show room removes all gem cost. It is god tier and I think I can't do a run without it coat checked.
Oh and by the by, the telescope has more than one use, and that second use helps mitigate rng quite a good chunk (about as much as some of the upgrade disks).
The armory will not show up if you don't have the chess board upgrade for it.
I think I've seen the telescope one time.
